There's no Wifi in the room. You have to go to the first floor to get any signal. We complained, but nothing was done. When we finally got our Kazakhstani SIM cards, the cellular signal wasn’t that great in the room, so WiFi would have been very handy.
The bathtub was dangerous: the bottom of the tub is curved and the tub is high in the air and it’s very slippery with no bathtub mat offered, you have to make a big step up. I was concerned that I may slip and fall.
The good touch was the fruit plate when we arrived.
The room is fairly clean, but the carpet is “tired” with dirty and burnt spots.
We asked the room to not be cleaned every day as we like our privacy. That request wasn’t honoured, the cleaner went inside and rearranged things in the room after we made the request. We also asked for help with the safe in the room; however, that help wasn’t arranged, even though it was promised. We were worried about the cash that we carried with us.
The breakfast bar: the scrambled eggs were sour, some fruit on the plates was rotten, the omelette was offered only during certain time at breakfast, the chef didn’t clean the omelette bowls between omelettes, there was no jam on Monday. There was enough food to eat, but the quality was spotty and it wasn’t spectacular. The choice of the music was funny.
Overall, the hotel is below what one would consider Best Western quality, but maybe better than some Motel 6’s in the US.
The staff are friendly.
The taxi that we booked through the hotel from the airport was was very handy (and I highly suggest you book it), although for the amount you’d expect a newer car and air conditioning. The car was old, the windows were rolled down during the ride, and we got to appreciate the Almaty smog (although the air was pretty clean that night). We also had a very hard time booking the ride through the hotel as the staff didn’t respond any of the English language emails that we sent, but they finally responded to emails and...
Read moreDeserves 5 Star but.. I had a wonderful four-night stay in this super amazing country, but unfortunately, my experience was completely marred by the front desk during checkout.
Upon check-in, a $100 USD security deposit was taken, which seemed reasonable for safeguarding in-room services or any potential property damage. However, during checkout, we were hit with a surprise charge of 30000 tenge (around $66 USD) for a bathroom flooding incident. I was aware of the flooding and had intended to apologize to housekeeping that day, but I had to leave in a hurry as my bus was waiting.
I explained to the front desk that the bathroom lacked proper drainage (with the only outlet being the bathtub), and the water seeped out due to a mistake with the curtain hanging outside the tub. Moreover, there was no penalty checklist provided in the room, nor was it mentioned during check-in. The staff reluctantly showed me a checklist from their drawer that they kept for themselves. After a prolonged argument, I had to agree to a 50% charge (15000 tenge) as my bus was departing for the airport.
I strongly advise all travelers to request a checklist from the front desk during check-in to avoid having their pleasant memories tarnished by such incidents. Despite this unfortunate experience, the country itself is truly amazing, including its people.

Subject: Feedback Regarding Our Stay at Best Western Almaty
Dear Team,
We are currently staying at Best Western Almaty, and unfortunately, our experience last night was quite disappointing.
We are a group of four ladies who have been staying here for the past two days. While we appreciate the room change we requested being accommodated, an incident occurred last night that left us feeling extremely embarrassed and uncomfortable.
We were sitting near the coffee area when we encountered rude and unprofessional behavior from your staff. A man and a lady at the reception spoke to us in a harsh and disrespectful manner, showing a complete lack of hospitality.
I had informed them that I would put the sofa back in its place after having my coffee, unaware that moving it slightly was not allowed. However, their tone and approach were unnecessarily harsh, leaving us feeling unwelcome.
Overall, the experience was disappointing, and it has impacted our stay negatively. We hope the team takes this feedback seriously to ensure such incidents do not happen in the future.
Looking forward to hearing from...
