Del Luna — Hotel in Almaty

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights. The hostel was super clean. There is a kitchen with a fridge and boiling water. Convenience stores next door with everything you could need. Only downside is there isn’t Air-conditioners in the rooms but I feel this wouldn’t be an issue for most of the year. Ali was very welcoming and made us feel completely at home. Even though he couldn’t speak much English we had no problems communicating everything we needed via Google translate. He is such a lovely man, you couldn’t ask for a better host. He even drove us 30 minutes to a bus station at 7 in the morning for us to catch a bus to Bishkek and wouldn’t accept any money from us for it. The neighbourhood is a little bit out of the city but it seems like a nice area with lots of families, street art and plenty of food options nearby. I chose this because it was close to the airport and it had good ratings. It is clean but somewhat claustrophobic. it only has one combined toilet and shower for what looks like up to 20 male guests. On arrival, I got a feeling that I was not really welcome as the woman kept asking for money while I tried to retrieve my booking details. Later the family was helpful and friendly. There are no curtains on the bunks and the lockers will not accommodate a large backpack. The aircon did not reach the dormitory but there was a fan. Located 7km away or about 10-15min drive from airport. Last minutes booking via WhatsApp and the lady owner helped to get a drop off to airport at 1am. Hostel is simple, but toilet, room & bed were clean, that’s good enough to take some rest for a few hours before the wee hour’s flight. Remember to bring your earplugs if you’re light sleeper.
