We were visiting Kenyan House between Christmas and New Year and immediately liked the nice atmosphere and the lovely decorated house with it's welcoming pool and lush garden. The breakfast are good with toast, pancakes, omelette and fresh fruit, but you might end up a little bored of the same breakfast every day if you stay for longer.||||Kenyan House is located north of Malindi and you can reach the town-centre in 10 minutes by a "tuk-tuk" taxi. The beach is a 10-15 minutes walk down the road, but be aware that in some times of the year the nearby river will make the sea chocolate brown of sediments, not inviting for a swim; then the nearest swimming beach is 20km away in Watamu.||||The rooms are spacious with a descent bed and good mosquito nets. The bathrooms are big and offers both cold and hot water. We really enjoyed the outdoor areas with big sofas, beds and tables.||||It can be somehow hard to get information's and recommendations by the staff or the owners. The English were on a basic level and the owners were hardly present at our 8-days stay. There were little information other than the "package" tours that Kenyan House had with different operators, though the information brochures were outdated (phone numbers etc.) and for little help when nobody is around to question. We ended up arranging our trips our self with the help of our guide book and the staff to call a driver when necessary.||||We were disappointed with one person in the management who, when present, would be shouting and yelling at the ever-friendly big hearted staff and who would be sitting around in the guests areas doing nothing but smoking (indoor) and talking in the cell phone for hours. We felt this was both intimidating and unfair due to the good service the staff offers from early morning to late night.||||Kenyan House is perfect for travellers looking for a hide-away for a few days where you will enjoy your days at the pool and take small trips to town to do shopping or visiting nearby attractions. Be aware that it is located some distance from both the beach and town, and that if you plan to do some activities you might have to organize it yourself, but the staff will help you with transport (tuk tuk og taxi). The staff really saves this lovely place and I'm sure anyone will enjoy...

Read moreWouldn't recommend this place to anyone, not even my worse enemy!||Had to come to Malindi for an impromptu business trip, so booked our stay at THE KENYAN HOUSE the day before. Since we didn't know how long our meeting was going to be, I didn't commit on a check in time on booking.com. On the day of check-in, the host/owner, Muhammed called at around 1400hrs to confirm our booking and I confirmed that we are checking in on that day. We were done with our meeting and arrived at around 1745, we were shocked to find the place house closed and no one was there to receive us. Calls to the owner went unanswered, when I asked the guard to call him, he picked up and was informed that we were waiting outside where we sat for 45mins waiting for a lady to come open!! The owner called ||the next day at night asking for payment lol! The water doesn't run freely from the taps including the wash basins. My husband at one point had to use buckets to shower (as pictured) because they didn't remember to pump the water which was available 😒. I choose this place based on the positive reviews but I guess the hospitality and service delivery is based on who you are or where you came from and it's not constant. From the lack of hospitality or service we have gotten, giving this place a one star is a lot actually! I've stayed at THE AFRICAN HOUSE (different management) and our experience there was amazing .Would recommend it there 10000 times over...
