Royale Hotel Karen — Hotel in Nairobi

We were introduced to this Hotel by our Kenyan guide and friend Samson (Rated Tours), and were impressed at how convenient the location was for places we wanted to visit, and how tranquil for Nairobi, providing a relaxed outdoor leisure area - the staff working in the hotel could not be more friendly, helpful and welcoming. The guests seem to be a mix of International visitors staying for a night or two in Nairobi and local people using the pool and gym facilities, which made for a lovely warm atmosphere. We enjoyed great service and meals served by the informal pool area, or in the covered dining or club areas, and were allocated an upstairs room that was quiet and well appointed. Our stay was for a couple of nights whilst in Nairobi, then were very pleased to return for a relaxing lunch before catching the flight home to Suffolk, UK. My recent experience here was extremely disappointing due to the service provider's rude and condescending attitude. The woman at the reception who assisted me was unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable throughout my time there. |Despite her age, I would expect her to uphold basic professional standards. It's clear that customer satisfaction and professionalism are not a priority for this establishment. I would advise others to seek alternative options when looking for service in this area.||Kindly note it's the woman who's always there in the evening I usually find her there from 4 pm|| It goes to show that age doesn't necessarily equate to professionalism. We were delighted to return to the Royale Karen (twice) on another expedition with Samson Gathogo (Rated Tours). This was our base in Nairobi for the start and end of our trip and we were so pleased to be back. The new manager was very welcoming and the staff just as friendly and helpful, even keeping my lost property for my return. Extremely well located with an informal drinking and dining area around the pool, and a comfortable room we felt immediately back home. A few international visitors like us were passing through, but much of the clientele were local people enjoying the facilities which gave a great atmosphere.
