Langata Link — Local services in Nairobi

I had one of the most disappointing and infuriating experiences at Langata Link today. We stopped briefly to get something from Zucchini. My father stayed in the car while I went inside. When I came back, I was shocked to find a commotion — a white woman in the car behind ours was waving her hands around, and a watchman was at my father's window speaking to him aggressively.

What struck me was how useless the watchmen had been until that point. Not once did they guide us while parking — no one told us we were too far out or hadn’t moved in enough. But suddenly, after we’ve already parked, they show up with aggression and attitude? Make it make sense.

The worst part is, there was more than enough space for the woman behind us to pass. She was simply being dramatic, and instead of handling the situation calmly, the watchman chose to escalate it — targeting my father with total disrespect.

It felt racist. That’s the truth. All the energy went into making sure a white woman felt okay, while treating a local man like a problem. I was honestly shaken. In a place I’m paying to visit, in my own country, we were treated like second-class citizens. It’s disgraceful.

Clearly, the rules at Langata Link are simple: white discomfort = emergency, Black dignity = optional.

Langata Link needs to do better. I will not be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who values...
