Read moreGoing to Druskininkai on vacation after Christmas with the family, I wanted primarily to rest, do some sport and to walk around the city. This hotel looked nice and modern, with good facilities, and hence it was booked.||||First, the positives. Overall, the rooms were tidy and comfortable, so no complaints there. The location is fantastic, close to the main street, close to good restaurants and also close to the lake, which makes for a good walk. With regards to the staff, they were all helpful and respectful: the cleaning service was especially efficient and fast, and are one of the redeeming parts of the hotel. The internet is surprisingly good too, without the all-too-common (and annoying) 'browser sign-in' system. A final nice feature is the ability to bring your dog along, if you so desire (at an additional charge (of which you will see a lot) of 15 euro per night)||||Now for the negatives: Firstly, this place is not quiet as there are many children and some dogs (which are allowed). Secondly, the facilities are shared: this means people from the other hotels nearby also have access to the pools and saunas, which would not be problematic if they weren't open only between 10:00 and 18:00 (in the best case scenario) and were always crowded. Also, the only two swimming lanes were constantly taken up by children, making it impossible to swim there. Only one towel was provided, so going to the sauna after swimming was consistently made difficult.||The biggest drawback to this hotel, as suggested by the title, is the number of questionable decisions made by the management. Firstly, I wanted to go to the gym on multiple occasions, but it was closed in the morning before 10 and in the evening after dinner. Poor opening times aside, once I did make it during the narrow opening window, the staff wanted to charge me 7 Euro per half hour. This is simply insulting! Charging an extra 7 Euro per half hour (or anything for that matter) for those opening times makes me wonder why the gym is there at all, and what the management was thinking. This and the pool situation are more than sufficient to deduct 2 blobs from the otherwise very good hotel. Also, the 'kids club' is charged separately too, but is less expensive than the gym at least, at something around 3 euro per hour.||||TL;DR: Nice location, good staff, clean rooms. Avoid like the plague if you want to use the gym (or go at inconvenient times for 7 euro/hour) or the pool for actual swimming (unless you like bumping into children). If you don't care about swimming or the gym, it is a...
Read moreThe complex consists of two co-located hotels: Hotel Lietuva (4-star) and Hotel Druskininkai (3-star) both of which have access to the Spa and Aquapark.||||The night before, we had stayed in a similar complex in Birstonas which we thoroughly enjoyed and would rate a blob higher than this property where the spa treatments were not quite as interesting and the breakfast was rather basic. The only thing better was the room which was spacious tho still relatively anodyne, which seems to be the norm in these types of establishments.||||The only significant issue worth calling out is that mid-way thru our treatments, the staff decided that we had too many scheduled in the same afternoon. This was entirely the fault of the person who we liaised with by email who had suggested the schedule, with the result not only that we missed out on a treatment that could, when we first booked, have been scheduled at another time, but also that we needed to be given a refund as we paid for everything by credit card on arrival. In any other international hotel this wouldnt be a problem but here, the line given us was that they had no means to credit money to a credit card. Presumably, this was an accountancy policy to stop staff abuses. The only option given to us was to apply for a bank transfer. However, UK banks dont accept Euros and even if there was a means to accept such an international transfer, we would undoubtedly, incur charges. So, somewhat forcefully, I made it clear that the only option was to give us cash. This was resisted initially but ultimately conceded. However, we received our money only after some fairly robust conversations. ||||It goes without saying that a problem caused by their own staff member should have been resolved much more elegantly now Lithuania regards itself as a fully European country. As a result of this disappointing treatment, I have...
