We booked four rooms for our annual yoga retreat, drawn by the resort’s fresh renovation and quiet, secluded setting. The property looks impressive at first. There is a grand entrance, high ceilings, and a beautiful sunset-facing pool. But beyond the aesthetics, the service and organisation fell far short of expectations.
There were a few highlights. We appreciated the aroma oil burner during turndown service, the complimentary soft drinks (please reconsider the types of offerings) in the minibar, the free yoga class, and the compact but well-equipped gym. These were nice touches. Unfortunately, they were the exception.
One of us arrived first and checked into the room. Staff said the other rooms were ready. But when the rest of the group arrived shortly after, we were told they were not. This was already past official check-in time. No alternatives were offered, no space to rest, no gesture to ease the wait. It reflected a lack of basic hospitality.
The resort offers activities around the property, but they are hard to locate. Names like Jamboree and Jubilee are confusing, signage is poor, and even staff seemed unsure of directions. This made us feel lost and unsupported.
We had lunch at the hotel restaurant while waiting. Service started well, but one dish never arrived. We reminded the staff four times over more than an hour. There was no update, no apology. It only came after we asked for the manager. No one noticed our discomfort or offered anything in the meantime. It was not the mistake itself that was frustrating, but the silence and lack of follow-up.
In the room, the air conditioning switched off at night. The television turned on by itself. The carpet had crumbs from the night before, so it clearly had not been vacuumed. Toiletries were low quality and not replenished.
Room service was also disappointing. We ordered two portions of satay but received only one portion of peanut sauce. One of us ate dry satay. We requested five sets of plates and cutlery, confirmed over the phone, but only received three plates and no cutlery. The food arrived lukewarm, with no explanation or correction.
We also had an awkward moment with housekeeping. We told the staff we were heading out and asked them to return later. Instead, we were pressured to let them clean immediately. It felt like our time was being dismissed.
Lastly, although we paid the tourism tax at check-in and showed proof, we were asked to pay again at check-out. The same staff who had checked us in said nothing. It was a final reminder of how disconnected the team was.
None of these issues were dramatic on their own. But together, they reveal a resort that is not communicating well behind the scenes. The staff are not trained, not empowered, and not following through. Service recovery was nearly non-existent.
Angsana Teluk Bahang has the look of a five star resort, but the operation feels more like two. The real problem is not the facilities. It is the mindset, the communication, and the culture.
We are not asking for perfection. But we do expect clean rooms, working air conditioning, timely meals, and staff who care.
To the management reading this, please do not send a standard apology. We genuinely hope the management can understand what went wrong.
We wanted to love this place. But until these issues are addressed, we cannot recommend it to others seeking a restful or...

Warm greetings!
My family and I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire team for making our 2D1N stay on June 7 & 8 a truly memorable experience in celebration of our 25th Wedding Anniversary.
Though the initial round of planning for the event had some shortcomings, the final execution went beyond our expectations. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival, and the hospitality shown by your team was truly commendable.
The deluxe sea view room was simply breathtaking—with the bed facing the ocean, beautifully arranged decorations, a thoughtful wishing card, and delightful refreshments that set the tone for a perfect getaway. We thoroughly enjoyed the serene seaside atmosphere and the picturesque surroundings.
When we were heading to our designated room, we accidentally entered the Bomba (emergency) lift, as the signage was not very visible or obvious. We only informed by housekeeping associate when we are inside the lift to exit immediately in accordance with the hotel’s safety procedures.
Due to the weather, the romantic dinner was moved to an indoor setting under Plan B. However, we were absolutely thrilled with the table décor, the impeccable food presentation, and the warm gestures from Mr. Sham and the F&B team. The surprise bouquet of roses from Angsana Penang touched us deeply, and we would especially like to thank Siva, for his professionalism, engaging stories, and cheerful service that added so much warmth to the evening.
We would also like to share a few suggestions for further improvement: The automatic Aircon power cutoff when the balcony door is left open, power reset causing short power outages can be slightly inconvenient. Perhaps a reminder note or a short briefing from the front desk would help future guests avoid this. The king bed of was a bit too soft for our comfort and could potentially affect sleeping quality and posture. The dinner setup, although beautiful, did not completely match the reference photo due to the change in venue. That said, it was still well done and acceptable. A minor oversight during :3 courses dinner was the missing ice cream for the brownie dessert, which we brought to the attention of Sham and Siva but immediately delivered. Suggest front desk to brief guests during check-in to avoid such confusion taking wrong lift. Additionally, it may be helpful to make the signage more noticeable—perhaps using a brighter color and larger font above the lift or near the lift buttons to clearly indicate that it is not for guest use
Despite these small points, our overall experience at Angsana Teluk Bahang was exceptional. Angsana Teluk Bahang Penang associates’ genuine care, greetings and attention to detail truly made our wedding anniversary celebration special and memorable.
With sincere appreciation, Grace Lee & family Date...
Read moreMy recent stay at Angsana Teluk Bahang Penang, from June 15-18, 2024, left much to be desired. We booked two superior sea view rooms, expecting a luxurious and comfortable experience given its management under the Bayan Group and the hotel's 4.5-star rating on Google. Unfortunately, the reality fell short of our expectations.
Upon arrival on June 15, we were greeted by a warm and stuffy lobby with poor ventilation, making it an uncomfortable start to our stay. The friendly receptionist who checked us in was a positive note, but the discomfort persisted.
Entering our rooms, we were dismayed to find them dusty and the floors unclean. Walking barefoot caused our feet to become noticeably dirty, and we even found rice on the floor. One room had an uncovered sofa bed. After voicing our complaints to reception, the floor was cleaned post-dinner, but the ceiling pendant and parts of the room remained dusty. For a five-star hotel, such lapses in cleanliness are unacceptable and disappointing.
Breakfast at Jendela was fine, with some menu items changing daily to offer a bit of variety. The taste was satisfactory as well. However, arriving at around 7 am daily, we found the food was not warm enough. While the egg omelette was particularly unpalatable with a runny center and an unpleasant eggy smell, overall, the breakfast experience could be improved, but the rotating menu was a nice touch.
The housekeeping service added to our dissatisfaction. On the third day, only one towel was provided for a room meant for two guests—a careless mistake unacceptable for a five-star establishment. Additionally, the mini bar policy of refilling only once in four days felt stingy and unbecoming of a hotel of this caliber.
Despite the stunning sea view, which every room enjoys, the overall experience was marred by these issues. The hotel’s potential is high, thanks to its beautiful design and location. However, the management needs to address these fundamental service and cleanliness concerns to prevent further decline.
In summary, while the view from Angsana Teluk Bahang Penang is breathtaking, the disappointing service and cleanliness overshadowed what should have been a memorable stay. Improvements are necessary to align the guest experience with the hotel's high potential...
