I think the past reviews in Jendela speaks for itself. 3.2 star from only 19 reviews, speaks volumes. Angsana is such a beautiful resort in Teluk Bahang. Unfortunately, Jendela appears to be a misfit in Angsana & Banyan Tree portfolios. For a person who have visited many Angsana & Banyan Trees globally, from Maldives to Hangzhou, I must say I am rather disappointed with Jendela.
Services are below par. Many employees struggled to communicate in basic English, in a country and city where English is a main medium of communication. Walking into Jendela, I was given 2 pieces of menu, if you can even call them that, for order. Seriously, I can get better condition menu from a kedai tomyam at Batu Ferringhi than what I was given at Jendela. You guys can really do better than that. You are Angsana Resort. Not Frandy's Bar. Even Frandy's has a better menu than you guys. It is fine that you laminate your menu but at least get it done in a proper manner and give to your customer one, in a good condition. Also, dont bother with the coaster. If you are going to serve a low quality coaster that bends everytime it touches water, whats the point really? A coaster is meant to protect the table and also provide grip to the glass. If they can do neither, what is the point really? How much extra could it cost to have a better quality coaster?
The staff that came to take our order struggled to understand basic English. We just ordered 2 fruit juices initially and the poor boy struggled to comprehend. Feeling pity, I had to switch to Malay. What about the other tourists who comes to the resort with all sorts of crazy accents? How then are they going to fare?
The whole restaurant was empty when we ordered our drinks and some buffalo wings and it took around at least 40 minutes before the chicken wings arrived. We had to ask many times for our food. Drinks were served and finished, yet food didn't arrive. Even then, the chicken was not entirely cooked. We asked for simple thing such as salt and even then it was forgotten. Yet the whole restaurant was empty. So what are they doing?? They didnt even bother to clean up the restaurant.
Next to my table, there was a piece of leftover nugget on the floor and it was right there on the floor for many hours and nobody even bother to clear it up. The birds were nibbling on it, not knowing that they are nibbling on their cousin. Does anyone bother? Obviously not.
In a nutshell, I can see that the restaurant lacks of leadership and staff lacks of training. They dont know what they are doing and they are not attentive enough. One of the staff came to ask us if we ordered any beer? We only ordered 2 juices and a platter of buffalo wings and they could get confused with that. I fear for the worst, in the event when things gets busier.
The view from the restaurant is breathtaking, marred by the lack of quality in its food and services.
On the plus point however, there were 2 staff that were very helpful enough to charge my phone for me, when it runs out of juice and even went to the extend to find me the cable and socket to help me out. Cheers to...
Read moreWe ordered a bottle of wine during our visit. However, after the first glass was poured, the staff simply placed the wine bottle beside me and did not continue to serve it. I had to pour the wine myself, not only for me but also for my companion. This level of service was surprising and disappointing, especially considering this is a 5-star hotel.
Even at regular wine shops in Penang, such as Wine Shop, the staff ensures a more attentive experience. Throughout our time enjoying the wine, no staff came to check on us or offer to pour another glass. Additionally, no one replaced ice inside the wine bucket to keep the wine chilled, something that is considered a very basic standard in the hospitality industry.
What made the experience worse was that while we were still dining and not even finished with our wine, a female staff member at the counter approached us to settle the bill. It was only around 4 PM, the restaurant was not busy, and yet it felt like the staff were more interested in chatting among themselves than providing attentive service. Asking for payment before we were finished felt rushed and unprofessional. This is not how guests should be treated, even in casual restaurants.
I hope this feedback helps improve the quality of service...
Read morePositives: Nice setting and views over the sea Very friendly staff All very clean The shellfish on ice in the evening was excellent
Breakfast great choice of different dishes tasty
Negatives:
Dinner Unfortunately, the rest of the food in the evening was very average. I tried 8 dishes from the traditional Malay evening buffet and only one dish was ok. The rest was below expectations. The flavours are just very bland and the dishes have no authentic flavour at all. I would have expected a more authentic taste. I am afraid to say that I had better street food in Penang.
Lunch I also had a chicken sandwich in ciabatta bread for lunch and it was just awful. One small piece of chicken (the chicken was the size of my thumb for the entire sandwich) and the rest was vegetables, cheese and egg with salad dressing. I was not impressed at all. 👎🏻
This place could be amazing but the food is a real let down. I gave it 3 stars because the staff tried really hard to make it enjoyable for us.
Sorry for this review but there is a lot of room for improvement on the food flavours to make this...
