Strategic Location with Quirks: A Review of Deview Hotel Location (5/5): This hotel shines with its convenient location. Nestled near Kek Lok Si Temple, it offers easy access to this iconic landmark. Plus, George Town, the heart of Penang's cultural scene, is just a short drive away. Most tourist destinations are within a 15-30 minute car ride, making it a great base for exploring the city. On-site parking is a big plus for travelers with their own vehicles.Service (3/5): The hotel utilizes self-service check-in and check-out kiosks. While this can streamline the process, it creates a more impersonal experience. Staff interaction is limited, making it difficult to gauge overall service quality.Breakfast (4/5): The breakfast spread was a pleasant surprise – a nice selection of dishes to start your day. While there was a minor blip with one fly (perhaps an unavoidable occasional visitor in a tropical climate), the overall quality of the breakfast was good.Room (3.5/5): The room itself was spacious and thoughtfully designed. However, soundproofing proved to be a major downside. Being on the second floor, I was unfortunately privy to noises from the street, like arguments, and even disturbances from neighboring rooms. This could be a deal-breaker for light sleepers. If you prioritize a quiet stay, consider requesting a higher floor or a room away from potential noise sources. On the positive side, the room was well-equipped with amenities, and the design had a nice aesthetic. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take a picture of the room to showcase its design.Overall: This hotel offers a strategic location and comfortable rooms, but the lack of soundproofing and limited service interaction might be a concern for...
Read moreLocation is fairly out of the way from Georgetown. Good for those wanting a more quiet stay. The hotel had a lot to improve on. Pros: The room was fairly clean since it was recently renovated, and the air con took a while to start up, but was cold. The bathroom heater was good, and the water was hot. There was free water from a dispenser in the lobby. Cons: Despite smelling clean - like they had been bleached - the towels had some black stains, and even after requesting a replacement, the new towels were still stained. Our room sink was partly blocked as it would fill up very fast and take a long time to drain. Meanwhile, the toilet had a constant bad smell from the sewers coming up the drains. Even leaving the ventilation fan on didn't help. The room itself was quite bright due to the light from the air con and from outside the hallway. Not too great for sensitive sleepers. Hotel housekeeping staff also need some training as two of the male staff insisted on fitting themselves AND two carts into the lift together with me and my partner. I understand that only one lift was working and would rarely be empty, but I was practically forced into a tiny corner between the two carts. I also experienced another moment where a contractor/staff member cut the guests to enter the lift first with a trolley in hand. One working lift is not enough as it was constantly full during peak time. Lastly, upon checkout we found out that some rooms had water bottles provided in the rooms, while...
Read moreI recently stayed at this hotel and overall, I had a pleasant experience. The location is fantastic, with numerous local food options nearby and the Kek Lok Si Temple just a short distance away. The rooms were spacious, clean, and hygienic, which made for a comfortable stay. However, I did encounter an issue with the front desk staff. Although the official check-in time is at 3 PM, we arrived a bit earlier and politely inquired about the possibility of checking in sooner. The response we received from the front desk was not as friendly as expected. She simply said "wait a minute" and did not inform us whether we could check in. After we asked again, she asked for our names, prepared the information and room cards, and then said, "We check in at 3 o'clock here, and you can only check in when the room is ready." However, she had already prepared the room cards, so I asked if we could check in now. She just replied, "Yes." Throughout the entire interaction, her demeanor was quite unprofessional, with a sullen expression and a dismissive attitude. It would have been much appreciated if the staff had been more communicative and polite throughout this process. A more courteous approach in handling early check-ins and clear communication could greatly enhance the guest experience.I hope this feedback helps in improving the service, as the hotel itself is quite...
