Air Itam - A small park that is dedicated to the fallen of World War II. The area around the Overseas Chinese Anti-War Memorial Park was upgraded on Armistice Day November 2011, the Air Itam War Memorial Park had the installation of interpretive plaques, World peace memorial, Penang Chinese Relief Mural & The Penang Chinese Relief Memorial, were all added, & the park renamed: Air Itam War Memorial Park. "The Air Itam War Memorial Park is a small park off the Air Itam Roundabout, in Air Itam, Penang. It was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng, at 11:00 am on 11 November, 2011, the 60th anniversary of the original unveiling of the Overseas Chinese Anti-War Memorial, the main feature of the park. In addition to the Overseas Chinese Anti-War Memorial, the memorial park also includes the World Peace Memorial, the Penang Chinese Relief Memorial and the Memorial Park Mural. The World Peace Memorial is in the form of a pedestal with a flock of doves in flight. The Penang Chinese Relief Memorial depicts the transportation volunteers sent to provide relief for China. They served as drivers and mechanics to transport material into China following the blockade of Chinese seaports by Japan. The relief effort is also shown on a mural showing workers building the road between Burma and China and the convoy of trucks."

Het Ayer Itam War Memorial Park in George Town is een rustige en indrukwekkende plek die echt een bezoek waard is. Dit herdenkingspark is opgericht ter nagedachtenis aan de Chinese gemeenschap die geleden heeft tijdens de Japanse bezetting van Maleisië. Midden in het park staat een witte obelisk die direct opvalt en symbool staat voor de moed en het doorzettingsvermogen van de mensen die toen hun leven gaven. Wat me vooral raakte, is de sfeer van stilte en respect die er hangt. Het is geen groot park, maar de eenvoud maakt het juist krachtig. Er is een bronzen reliëf te zien dat op een indrukwekkende manier de geschiedenis uitbeeldt – met vrijwilligers die vrachtwagens duwen langs de Burma Road, onder vijandige vliegtuigen. Dat beeld blijft hangen. De omgeving is goed onderhouden en er zijn bankjes waar je even kunt zitten en nadenken. Het is niet druk, wat het extra bijzonder maakt. Als je geïnteresseerd bent in geschiedenis of gewoon even tot rust wilt komen op een betekenisvolle plek, dan is dit park zeker aan te raden. Een stukje erfgoed dat je stil maakt – op een mooie, respectvolle manier.

Perhaps, tourists visiting Penang's Penang Hill can pass by here and pay homage to those sleeping souls and their history, especially Chinese tourists, because this is to commemorate the Malaysian Chinese and technicians who transported supplies to China through the Burma Road during the Anti-Japanese War during World War II.

WW2 has been a very painful memory for Malaysian especially the Chinese community. And this memorial park serve as a reminder to the present and future generations of that painful chapter. The memorial was built for honoring the brave heroes who has contributed their life, their scarifies in helping to transport supplies needed in to mainland china from Myanmar, via a deadly passage full of ambush and air raids by the Japanese Army.
