The idea of ‘Little Colmar’ started when Malaysia’s ex-PM Mahathir Mohamad was visiting Europe in the 1990s and was captivated by a French town there. Opened in 2000, Colmar Tropicale is a French-inspired village that closely resembles the fairytale-like town of Colmar in Alsace, France. This quaint village is not a cluster of medieval homes, but rather a hotel with restaurants and cafés. With its location in the middle of a rainforest, getting to Colmar Tropicale is a 60mins car journey from Kuala Lumpur. A daily return shuttle service is available from Berjaya Times Square to Berjaya Hills Resort at the following times:
🇲🇾 From Berjaya Times Square to Berjaya Hills Resort: 10am & 6pm
🇫🇷 From Berjaya Hills Resort to Berjaya Times Square: 8am & 4pm
💲Fees: (Return) RM60 for adult | RM55 for child
To purchase the tickets, please head to the hotel office at the 15th floor of Berjaya Times Square Hotel. I bought the tickets a day in advance. If in doubt, please enquire with the hotel concierge and the staff will guide you to the hotel office.
Upon arrival at 2pm on a Friday, I was told that the room will only be ready by 3pm. I had booked the Deluxe King Room which measures 30 square metres. The property offers two views, Village Square and Mountainside. The rooms are housed in eight blocks namely, Azalea, Brunfelsia, Camellia, Dahlia, Euphorbia, Fuchsia, Gazania & Heliconia. I was accommodated in an attic (Room No. 6599) on level 5 in Fuchsia which faces the Village Square.
The Wi-Fi worked efficiently. Other than local TV programmes, there are selective cable TV channels such as Cinemax, AXN, CCTV 4 and Cartoon Network for your viewing pleasure.
The dining options at Colmar Tropicale include:
La Boulangerie Cafe (French Bakery) La Flamme (Pasta & Pizza) Le Blason (Malaysian & International cuisine) Le Poulet Roti (Chicken)
Given there are no food and beverage establishments nearby, you have to dine at the resort premises. A main course costs from RM35 at any of the above restaurants. There is a Starbucks and 7-Eleven which operates from 7am to 11pm, true to its name. Besides the hospitality lounge, there is an outdoor pool here. However, I did not use it as it does not look inviting.
If you are a resort guest, you will enjoy complimentary admission to these places - Japanese Village and Rabbit Park. The shuttle service picks up passengers at the entrance of Colmar Tropicale at the following times:
To Japanese Village - 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm & 5pm
To Rabbit Park - 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm & 4.30pm
Given its small area, Colmar Tropicale is good for a one night stay. If you enjoy cool weather and prefer a less touristy resort like Genting Highlands, this place...
Read moreI would say I have magical experience here, however it would be more nice if we was given a "perfect room in my view", as we first time come here and the purpose is for honeymoon experience, I believe their intentions were good, to provide my request of hill view but I'm not happy to change the room type even it's the bigger room, not everyone will like spacious room, I feel not safe to stay in spacious room, lastly we still can change the original room we purchased, but the higher level all has been occupied and we only have choice of basement level which REALLY DISAPPOINTED me.
Worsen the experience, our TV in room keep showing no signal and it seems cannot function well, big thanks to one of the technician that settle this issue for us, that is the turning point I started to feel comfortable and welcomed here.
The good thing is their staff always shows their concern of how you feels there and asks for any improvement needed, they are well trained in their customer service, I have delivered the Filipino gentleman my biggest concern here and he did his best to response with my feedback nicely, appreciate your kindness. I would really hope your team can give me truly magical experience "as in my view" next time I go there.
Other than that, I'm so happy and delightful as the PLACE IS SO BEAUTIFUL in day time but at night there was no street and ponds magical lighting in their place which I think before this have, not sure when it will be repaired, you should expedite the night-light repair works as it is one of the strong attraction there.
The activities there are not that much but I think still okay because the place is for you to relax and enjoy the scenery, after all there still have some activities you can do like visit Japanese garden, rabbit park, indoor house games, taking picture with parrots, horse trail and others.
Overall we still have good and lovely experience there as the place is so nice and the staffs are helpful, which I hope our next visit will be better than this one, keep up...
Read moreI booked a room for myself and my family and arrived at the hotel around 12 PM. Unfortunately, we were told that check-in was only available at 2 PM. To pass the time, we explored the area in search of lunch, but were disappointed to find that there weren’t any decent food options nearby — even Google reviews didn’t help. If you’re planning to visit, I’d suggest just making it a short trip and not expecting much in terms of food.
I was genuinely excited about staying here because of the Japanese Village, but that too turned out to be quite underwhelming. You need to climb and hike to reach it, which would have been fine if the experience was worth it. However, the village itself was very small, mostly greenery, with only two or three tiny houses that serve more as photo props than anything else.
When we finally checked in, the room we were given had a door that was extremely difficult to open and close, which felt unsafe. I noticed other rooms seemed to have the same issue. Because of this, I decided to cancel our stay. I spoke to the manager, who told me I could try requesting a refund through the third-party site I booked with. He said if they were okay with it, he would approve it on his end — even though the booking was marked non-refundable.
However, after submitting the refund request, it was rejected without any explanation. I tried to speak with the manager again, but he conveniently disappeared into the toilet and never came back. Before leaving, I was told by the receptionist that the manager would reach out to me — but I never heard back.
To make things worse, there’s no Grab or regular taxi service available in the area. You’re forced to go through the hotel to arrange transport, which costs 2–3 times more than usual rates.
All in all, a very disappointing experience. I had high hopes for this stay, but it fell short in...
