(TL;DR: THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING.) This place is the absolute epitome of a fiasco of a hotel. Or should I say living environment because this does not resemble a hotel AT THE LEAST. The horrendous reviews speak for themselves, and I hope I can get mine to do the same. I am not a person with exacting expectations, nevertheless this place didn't fail to disappoint. Would rate it 0 or even negative if possible.
First of all, the provided "amenities" were not sufficient. We were only provided with 1 packet of creamer and 1 packet of sugar for each cup of tea. Not to mention they were also of low quality. The tea ended up tasting bland and unpalatable. When we called to request for more creamer, we were absolutely shocked by the audacity of this corporation to make even CREAMER, literally the most integral part of the in room tea services, chargeable??? Every hotel I've been to, even the most worn-down ones, had no hesitations to providing this most basic service, but this large corporation is so stingy that they charge for it??? I am honestly so appalled at the audacity to charge for such low quality products; ruined my only night here with tea that tasted like hot water. The shower was also of poor quality. Shampoo made my whole family's hair as dry as the Sahara only after one shower. Horrible.
Secondly, even the quality of the room was quite bad. Sure, you could argue that boasting 3 aircons in the room is more than expected from a hotel, which I do agree. However, the bunk bed was so creaky probably because of low quality wood. The ladder was removable for whatever reason, and the whole bed kept shaking over the night. It literally felt like the top part was about to collapse on me. Also, when I checked in at the front desk, the receptionist told us about the Wifi network and password. However, when I was at Tower 4 (where my room was), the network previously mentioned was nowhere to be found. So we were left without internet for a good 20+ minutes until we dialed the receptionist again and they sent someone up. Turns out in Tower 4 the wifi was through a whole different network??? When the receptionists informed us about our room details they failed to let us know about this change. As a result one of my family members that was not with us at the time was left stranded and contactless. The tower was also located very very far from the nearest carpark, and getting to the carpark was like navigating a labyrinth. It was really so frustrating for me and my family then. How hard is it to just make everything accessible and known to your clients??? Literally the bare minimum and this "best hotel in Asia" already failed at it. Shameful.
Overall, I can say the only thing good about this hotel was that the location allowed me to overview Genting Highlands quite nicely from the balcony. But even that was not possible for us due to the numerous large moths at our room balcony. To be frank, the staff were nice and tried to help us as much as possible, but it is a shame that they are merely puppets of an evil large corporation choosing to just take away many things from its customers, from tangible things like 1 extra packet of creamer to intangible things like transparency and accessibility. I strongly urge the reader of this review if you are planning to book, think twice. If you've already booked, maybe be prepared to bring basics like body wash and creamer yourself. If you are a staff of this hotel that happens to be reading this. Reflect. Is this really the corporation you want to be...
Read moreWorst hotel of the century! All the negative reviews about this hotel Magtree, as well as Ion Delemen, are correct, because they are actually the same hotel towers. The towers were built and managed poorly. So disappointed that the poor location (far from the main Genting theme park) with great views are not utilized well. If I’m the investor I will be so disappointed!!! I’d like to add more points there were not mentioned by the reviewers. There was no telephone available in the hotel room. After I complained they put in a phone but no line available. The bathtub were built poorly. I’m 168 cm (5 feet 6 inches tall) but I had difficulties getting in and out of the bathtub because of its height. The builders obviously never use bathtubs in their lifetime! Hot water (mentioned already by others) was working intermittently. Hot water was not working at the end of day 3 night in one of the room when we came back very late. So we can’t get any help until day 4 morning but we had to check out. They guy said need major renovation to fix it, can take 5-6 hours. He tried to help but he can’t do anything as he is like a caretaker who can only coordinate with other people to get things done. He can only do basic things like taking out the secondary lock when I told him the door cannot be locked properly. So there you go - another big problem. This means someone with the room key can come into your room when you are in the toilet because you can’t answer the door! The room also stinks with cigarettes smoke! Terrible for non-smokers like me and my kids too! Big kitchen but nothing there (no utensils, kitchen supplies, not even a table cloth, dish soap) except a kettle!!! Many nice drawers that are not working well. It’s so hard to push them. I complained to caregiver but he said just push harder! There were stains on the counter top and the floors too. In day three, a huge pile of garbage bag was left on the table in the second bedroom, and the second bedroom was not fully made! Dirty towels were left lying everywhere. It looked like the cleaners were distracted, left the scene urgently. This is so unprofessional! So many things that make this hotel not a hotel. Not even a decent Airbnb! If you had no choice because hotels at Genting were fully booked, then you can stay here but expect the lowest of the lowest service so you can’t get...
Read moreWorst property in Genting Highlands! Ruined my vacation!
Pros: Spacious Rooms, Good for a large family or a group.
Cons: This place is in an adjoining hill to where the action happens. At least 5 kms away from the Indoor/Outdoor Theme Park. The only way to commute is by taxi or paid shuttle services. Getting a taxi during late night is a challenge. Right from the check-in, everything was a disaster. First, you need to wait for a long time in the queue to check in (Yes, you heard it right.. you need to stand in the queue to check in). This front desk caters to 6-7 different properties and is equipped with not-so-efficient and trained staff. They are slow and take a long time to check in. There are only 3 check-in counters. Once you are done with your check-in, no one cares to offer you any help. You are expected to carry all your stuff to your room and no guidance or help in any form. Once you enter the Suite, the first impression is awesome that it has a big living cum dining and the kitchen is well equipped BUT once you settle down, you will realise that the bathrooms were stinky, curtains were torn and not properly mounted/maintained, Room was dusty with a layer of dust visible on the tables, Sofa was broken, Balcony which was one of the reason to choose this property is non-functional, dirty with moss on the walls, haven't been cleaned for long, hand rails rusted and worst of all pathetic view from Tower 3, Room 31202. This place is not worth the price we paid. I paid almost SGD 190 a night, which was a rip-off. I wouldn't recommend anyone coming to Genting Highlands for the first time or celebrating their occasions to stay at Magtree or any of the Grand Ion Delemon properties. This is based on my personal experience. I had been to Genting Highlands many times in the last 15-20 years, and this is my worst experience ever! Forgot to mention, the room wasn't cleaned even once during my stay of...
