Summer Holiday at Payung Getaway Campsite @Cherating
We just wrapped up an amazing kids’ summer holiday at Payung Getaway Campsite & RV Park, and it truly exceeded expectations. The combination of nature, safety, great hosts, and well-thought-out activities made it a memorable getaway for both kids and adults. 🏕️ Campsite & Hosts The campsite is now run by Fuzz and Willi, and they were warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making our stay smooth and enjoyable. Everything was clean, organized, and child-friendly—ideal for families looking for a nature escape. 🛶 Outdoor Adventures for the Kids Kids had an absolute blast! They swam at the beach (which is just steps away from the campsite), played in the sand, and got to try stand-up paddleboarding in the calm river behind the campsite. It was so exciting to see the kids trying new things and building confidence outdoors. We also organized a team-building session for the kids at the campsite, with nature games and group activities that brought everyone together. The open space, fresh air, and peaceful surroundings made it the perfect environment for this. 🚿 New Facilities Brand new toilets (2 men’s, 2 women’s) with water heaters—a real plus for parents with younger children. The washing area was clean and well-equipped, and everything felt thoughtfully built for comfort. ☕ Café on Site Another highlight was the lovely café, now run by Ainon and Nat (previous owner of Campers Unite campsite). Their food and drinks were perfect for campers—and super convenient, especially with kids in tow. It was also a nice social spot for the adults to relax while the kids played nearby. 🐾 Safe, Spacious & Family-Friendly The campsite is gated, with clear boundaries, making it feel safe for the little ones to explore. It’s also pet-friendly, and we saw a few other families bring along their dogs without any issues. 🌟 Final Thoughts This wasn’t just a camping trip—it was a full-on outdoor learning experience for the kids and a relaxing break for the grown-ups. Between the beach swims, paddleboarding, nature bonding, and the new amenities, we couldn't ask for more. Highly recommended for family camping trips, especially if you want your kids to unplug and enjoy nature in a safe, welcoming setting. We’ll definitely be back—thank you, Fuzz, Willi,...
Read moreWe just finished three nights at Payung Campsite and had the best time. Normally we don’t write camping reviews—we’re pretty easygoing and expect a bit of inconvenience as part of the charm—but I felt compelled to write one for this place.
Before going, we had read some negative reviews, but I’m so glad we chose to ignore them. The owners were lovely, approachable, and genuinely kind, especially toward our two young kids. The food completely exceeded our expectations—it’s not basic canteen food at all, but fresh, flavorful, and clearly cooked with care. The menu is simple, with some western favorites, but every meal we tried was delicious.
The beach right outside is clean and beautiful. In the early evening, the tide goes low and forms little pools that were perfect for our kids to wade in. Just outside the campsite, there are some cafes and shops with a relaxed island surf vibe—we didn’t go in but they looked very charming.
One night during our stay, the campsite was full (it was a public holiday) and unfortunately some guests let their children play in the water near the kitchen/toilet area. This caused the water supply to run out, and we couldn’t shower that evening. But honestly, even in this tricky situation, the owners impressed us. One of them stood outside the toilets, explaining the situation to guests, apologizing sincerely, and making sure everyone felt looked after. They can’t control guests wasting water, but the way they handled it—with grace and genuine care—really stood out.
All in all, we had such a positive experience and would absolutely recommend Payung Campsite. Big thank you to the owners for creating such a warm, welcoming...
Read moreThis is a bit of a delayed review, but I still wanted to share my experiences since I've been to this campsite twice — once in mid-2023 and again in May 2024. The first time, I rented a regular camping lot and set up my own tent. The second time, we brought our RV and rented a camper car lot.
I really love this place. Willie and his partner are super warm and welcoming. They checked on us and the other campers every morning, which made us feel right at home.
The facilities are decent. The toilets were clean, nothing fancy, but what you'd expect at a camping site. Everything worked fine, which was good enough for us. There’s a hot shower in the first shower room, though it affects the water pressure a bit, but the other two showers were fine. The common area has all the basics — plug points, sinks for washing up, and a lounging area.
During our second visit, we got a powered site, which made it easy to charge our RV. This new addition was really convenient.
The best part of this campsite is definitely the view. It's right on Cherating Beach, so you can sleep under the stars and wake up to the sound of waves and a beautiful sunrise.
There's also a river at the back of the site for some sightseeing and simple activities.
The campsite is gated, which keeps it peaceful on busy weekends. But the beach is public, so it can get a bit crowded during peak times, which is a minor downside.
Overall, both of my visits were great. I had a fantastic time and look forward...
