Fireflies Watching (Kelip-Kelip) Cherating Mangrove River — Local services in Pahang

This place opens everyday except on Monday. For fireflies watching there are 2 slots ie at 7.30pm and 8.40pm. Fees for adults RM35.00 and children RM25.00. The best time for fireflies watching is at 7.30pm so buy your tickets early as this slot is in high demand. Cameras and handphones ARE NOT ALLOWED during fireflies watching to avoid disturbance so whatever you see keep it in your mind forever. Fireflies watching will start with a briefing about 10 to 15 minutes then you will be taken into boat ride for 1 hour. The boat is about 20 feet long and can accomodate up to 18 passengers. During the boat ride there is no lights allowed in pitch dark mangroves river cruise and you will be thrilled if not scared of the total darkness. At first the boat will cruise slowly for you to watch fireflies colony at the mangroves where some are in colony like Christmas trees. Then you will be surprised like kids when the guide named Hafiz calling the fireflies flying towards you. Believe me this is the best experience where the fireflies fly above and around you like little fairies. This is the only place where you will experience fireflies flying towards you as the guide has learned the art of calling these inspects in a very special way (I will not tell you how here so that you will be eager to experience it yourself). Hafiz is very passionate about fireflies and his talk was informative and engaging. Be warned that he talks quite rapidly and his accent is quite strong. The trip itself was an open aired boat with seating for about 20 passengers and life jackets provided. Don’t wear any insect repellent as it will repel the fireflies. We were forewarned of this. Also do yourself and everyone a favour. Keep your phone in your pocket and just enjoy the experience.

We saw fireflies in the trees like Christmas lights and when Hafiz did his magic with his torch, they came towards us like embers. It was magical and surreal.

I love it! Stumble upon this place and super glad just went for it. For RM45, I am well pleased with the whole tour. The tour guide are exceptional well in entertaining, and clearly knowledgeable.
