HOTEL TANJONG — Hotel in Perak

A budget hotel like so many out there. The room is ok, everything works. The real problem is the staff.

Since we are travelling by bicycle, we had a hard time finding a hotel that had a place to store the bicycles safely. All hotels around have no downstairs reception. We asked the desk man if we could park the bicycles in a nearby room, one stair up. He agreed. When we wanted to put the bicycles there, he all of a sudden changed his mind and there was no place for them. He wanted us to park them in the middle of the stairwell which meant that no one could pass. We ended up putting them in our room, we were lucky they fit there. In this whole process, the guy did not even help or think along. If you do not understand what we are saying, just admit it instead of saying yes to everything and later say no.

Also, we were twice charged the tourist tax. When we noticed and showed the receipt we had, he did not give us back our money.

During the evening the staff looks at reels behind the desk, the volume is so loud you can hear the music down the hallway. No consideration that people might hear and try to sleep.

Beds are very low Japanese style or for short people, the pics in Agoda look very presentable. The blankets are very cutesy with pics of unicorn but not to my taste. Water heater working but there is a masking tape across it. Water on the floor takes some time to drain off, the room also smells musty. This budget hotel is not that cheap, equivalent to hotel rooms in the Klang Valley and JB. The hotel has like 3 flights of steps with no lifts. Might be ok for gym goers and very fit people but not for senior citizens. The reedeeming factors are the rooms are satisfactorily clean and shops are nearby. Oh yes, you need to pay cash deposit RM50 per room and RM6 for tourism tax despite having paid in full through Agoda in case you put blood on the bedsheet that's what the receptionist told me.
