⭐ Honest Review – Golden Palm Tree Resort (Avani Sepang) ⭐ (Some say it’s a 3-star, some say 5-star… well, here’s my honest take.) We stayed at the Premier Travelers Palm Villa (Room 208). 2d1n sun-mon Cleanliness: Overall okay — not terrible, but not great either. The bed and mattress were fine, though a bit on the hard side. Bedsheet and pillowcase were clean with no bad smell. Amenities: Only shower towels were provided — no face or hand towels. No complimentary mineral or drinking water either. I was told each unit is supposed to have an installed water filter at the sink, but unfortunately, ours didn’t. Bathroom: The shower button was faulty — the rain shower didn’t work properly and was stuck at the handheld mode. Coffee/Tea Corner: No spoon or stirrer provided. The creamer and sugar had hardened, as if they had expired or masuk angin (exposed to air). Air Conditioning: Quite frustrating. The AC is standardized and automated, so you can’t adjust the temperature manually. The weather outside was scorching hot, but the room wasn’t cool enough. Even at night, it was still warm — we slept without blankets. Buggy Ride: The buggy service was fast and efficient, probably because we checked in on a Sunday–Monday (non-peak days). In-Villa Dining / Room Service: Expected better, especially for the price. I’ve stayed in many 3–5 star hotels, and honestly, this was one of the lowest in terms of taste and portion size for in-room dining. View & Surroundings: The view was superb and the air was fresh — that’s definitely a highlight. Beach Access: I asked about the private beach, but was told there isn’t one. Quite disappointing for a beachfront resort. You’ll have to walk out to the public beach and join the locals. Still, the sea view from the villa was magnificent. Nearby Local Food: Local food around the area was surprisingly good. We had dinner at Bayu Malam — cheap and delicious! Staff & Service: All the staff we encountered were nice, friendly, and helpful — from the reception team, buggy drivers, security guards, to the restaurant waiters. They were polite and always greeted guests with a smile. Definitely one of the better parts of the stay! 🌴 Overall Verdict: Beautiful view and peaceful atmosphere, but the facilities and in-room experience don’t quite live up to a 5-star claim. However, the friendly staff and scenic surroundings made the stay more enjoyable. ⭐ Rating: 3.5 / 5 (5 stars for the view and staff, but 3 stars for the room and amenities.)

Hi fellow travelers- Having stayed for 2 nights this is not an overall 5*. It is at best a local 3*. I compare this overall rating with other Malaysian 5* we have stayed on our trip- Pangkor Laut Resort, Eastern & Oriental Penang. Whilst the location in the middle of Straits is quite cool, it’s on mud flats and the land area has a very limited sand beach of maybe 15m in depth. So, here’s a breakdown for you: 1. On arrival there is no formal reception and the current pictures of this are not correct. You will directed to a Grand Ball room area where temporary reception, think attending a conference, has people sat at trestle tables with laptops checking people in. You’ll then be in a queue for a buggy to take you and your luggage to your room. You cannot walk as all family rooms are into the sea and about 200m+ from reception. So, beware it’s chaotic albeit functional. 2. The room- very spacious and nice design. However our family room the net curtains were stained and not clean; the sofa was likewise stained with drink spills that had not been cleaned or laundered. The rattan chairs on the balcony do not have any cushions. Aircon is old and noisy with fans over head. Bathroom toiletries were good and bed linen fresh. No mini bar but an old fridge is in the room. I say all this, because I do not expect a 5* to have a lack of basics. 3. The Service- Staff are friendly but do not know, definitely a training point, what good 5* service should feel and look like. Management should take a team bus to The Prestige or Eastern & Oriental to see & experience such service.5* hotels do not: 1: Mix up drinks in a cocktail.. putting peach syrup instead of peach liqueur into a cocktail. One is alcoholic, the other noon and there’s a big price difference for the cocktail. 2: When sitting down, guests should not ask waiters for menu OR to take an order. 3. When taking an order- repeat it back so the guest and waiter agree what is ordered. We asked for an extra portion of chana, got 3 arriving from 3 different waiters; we asked for dessert menu, none given, so didn’t have dessert. 4 This is funny; and even a 10year old Chinese girl next to me laughed.. when, next to lobby reception there’s a temporary food stall, I asked for the Fruit Salad - ready made, labelled and visible in the fridge- and got a ready made Fish Sandwich !!! 🤦🏽‍♂️😀 My fingers are getting tired so I’m stopping now! There is potential here but a long way off!

Serious Issues with Accessibility, Dining, and Guest Safety My recent stay at your resort was severely disappointing, characterized by significant issues ranging from ongoing construction and poor food quality to a critical food safety concern that endangered my family. Accessibility and Facility Issues Ongoing Renovation Hindered Accessibility: The lobby was undergoing heavy renovation during my check-in, rendering the primary access staircase non-accessible for guests with mobility issues (OKU/handicap unfriendly). Misuse of Handicap Parking: A resort service van was repeatedly observed occupying the designated handicap parking space. This demonstrates a clear disregard for accessibility needs. Subpar Dining Experience The quality and value of the food, both for breakfast and room service, were well below standard for a resort at this price point. Poor Food Quality: Meals were consistently served cold, and items like the brownie were noticeably stale and hard. The quality and portion sizes were far below expectations given the cost. Critical Food Safety and Management Failure This is the most critical issue. My family suffered severe food poisoning after dining at your resort. Severe Illness: The resulting illness was so extreme that a doctor initially suspected appendicitis and considered emergency surgery. This was a life-threatening medical emergency directly linked to the food consumed at the resort. Unacceptable Case Handling: The resort management team's handling of this serious incident has been inadequate and deeply disappointing. As of this review, there has been no satisfactory conclusion or resolution offered. Their response to this critical safety issue is far below the standard expected of a professional establishment. In summary, issues with accessibility, food quality, and, most importantly, a severe lapse in food safety and subsequent poor management response make it impossible for me to recommend this resort.

Overall Disappointed. The only good thing - clean room and nice view. I'm only thankful for this. Spoke to their manager regarding all our disappointments and was given a discount on spa for 1 pax. I'm not sure her name, but thank you, really appreciate this.

Now what was disappointing : Came here a few weeks ago for a weekend family stay. Booked using their official website few weeks before the stay and got a confirmation email regarding our booking. However on the day of stay we called them up to inform regarding late check in due to personal reasons - only to be told that "our reservation has been cancelled before by us". Was really disappointed at this time as we did not do any cancellation or even received any email regarding cancellation previously, pls note we were already on our way to the location during this time. Called them again to reconfirm and to ask if we are able to do new booking, however we were told that it was our mistake for cancelling and they are fully booked. We checked the official website there were still rooms and I called them again to reclarify only to be then told that it was a mistake from their side - where THEY HAVE ACCIDENTALLY CANCELLED OUR BOOKING PREVIOUSLY AND DID NOT SEND ANY EMAIL ON THIS. However, they managed to get us a room with the same booking fee after an hour of back and forth calls, thank you for this however I do believe we did not had to go thru the hassle of the disappointment just to get to this solution at the end. And no apology from their side for blaming us for cancelling our booking when it was their mistake.

Again, if we were not on our way there and it was not too last minute to change location, I would have definitely changed to a different place or cancelled the entire trip.

During check in, we were given false hope regarding the complimentary activities that comes with the room upgrade - which turns out to be wrong. Also, informed them we would like vegetarian options for the breakfast buffet as we have family members who are Vegan. Pls kindly note on this - if its not doable you could tell us upfront and it wouldn't have been as disappointing. Instead, when we initially made the booking few weeks ago, we called and requested for Vege options - we were told it can be done and they noted. During check in, I did remind them again and I was told to reconfirm with the restaurant manager. I went to the bfast restaurant twice and was told its confirmed - vege options for 3 pax. The next morning we came for the buffet bfast and we were told that they were not aware of this. And the chef sulked and said to another staff that 'there are already some options why cant just take whats there' Again, if you did not give a hope we wouldn't even have requested. We are not super desperate, however we are paying guests and we were given the impression and words that it will be done. Fortunately, one of the floor person, an Indian lady helped us to talk to another chef and we were given some vegetarian stir fried noodles. Thank you and appreciate this.

I totally understand that some things are bound to happen especially during peak holidays and if you are too busy. However, the service and the way you approach these matters could have been better.

There are definitely better resorts with better services and less...

1-Star Review: WORST Experience Ever — NOT a 5-Star Resort!

This was by far the most disappointing hotel stay of my life — and the fact that this resort claims to be 5-star is a complete joke.

Let me walk you through what happened: Chaos from the Moment We Arrived

We arrived at the resort and were met with overwhelming crowds and long queues. Still, we remained patient. We walked nearly 20 minutes with two young children to our assigned room — only to find it was double-booked! Another family had just checked in to the same room!

We tried to contact the service line — calls went unanswered multiple times. When we finally got someone on the line, they told us to go all the way back to the counter and restart the entire check-in process.

It took us over an hour to successfully check in. Unacceptable. Hygiene Disaster — Lizard Poop on Bed!

When we finally got into our room, we discovered something horrifying:

There was actual lizard poop (gecko feces) on the pillow and bedsheets.

This is supposed to be a luxury resort? Even a 2-star motel wouldn’t allow this level of filth. Poor Staff Attitude — Faizal at Service Counter

Later, we called to request a kettle.

They said they would deliver one. 30 minutes passed — nothing. We called again. They claimed: “Because it’s raining, delivery is delayed.” What kind of 5-star resort uses rain as an excuse for not delivering a basic item like a kettle?

When I followed up again, I got connected to a staff member named Faizal from the service counter. Instead of apologizing, he responded with a very impatient tone — as if I was bothering him for asking about the status.

Let me be clear: If a staff member cannot be patient, they have no business working at the front counter of a so-called luxury hotel. Customer service matters. Especially at a 5-star property.

Eventually, the kettle arrived — after 40 minutes. Summary: This Is NOT a 5-Star Hotel

Double-booked room Over an hour wasted on check-in Lizard poop on bedsheets Rude and impatient front desk staff (Faizal) Unreliable service and weak excuses Zero sense of urgency or hospitality

This was a 1-star experience at best. I honestly feel cheated. The hotel needs to re-evaluate their staff training, hygiene protocols, and basic service standards.

Golden Palm Tree Resort — you are NOT a 5-star resort. Please stop misleading customers with fake branding. I will never come back — and I advise others to...
