Where do I begin with this horrible hotel? I’ll start with saying that this hotel is receiving 5-10 (5-star) Google reviews per day.. how is this possible? I should have questioned the authenticity of these reviews BEFORE I booked. These are the horrible things I observed in my 1 day stay here: This hotel seems to favor a certain type of customer base. They do not serve alcohol and do not serve any pork items.. I’m sure you’ll understand what type of customer they favor based on this. And it appears their strict and absurd rules reflect this horrible attitude and actions towards their guests. Also, woman and men have to swim in separate pools. There is a pool for men and a separate pool for women and children. The majority of these things are not mentioned in their advertising of course. They do not allow you to put the air conditioner below 22.5 Celsius in your room and the thermostats are locked. I assure you that although the thermostat displays 22.5, it definitely is not. It maintains about a 25 degree Celsius temperature which makes sleeping miserable and humid. My friends room had the same issue on a different floor. When asking reception if they had a cooler room, they informed us that they couldn’t do anything about it and it’s the hotels policy. I had to use a handheld fan that I brought with me the entire night to cool off and be able to sleep. My friend unfortunately was able to get zero sleep before our international flight because her room was so humid and hot. The hotel is not like the photos posted. It is very outdated and all of the facilities are old, dirty, and falling apart. The ambience was lifeless; a complete ghost town and there was absolutely nothing to do at this hotel besides the pool, which brings me to my next major issue: While sitting at the pool, I witnessed two guests being abruptly surrounded by 3 staff members and a police officer. Supposedly they were being “fined” because they were wearing basketball shorts in the swimming pool instead of swimming shorts. Unfortunately the guests didn’t speak English and the local language well and were unable to defend themselves. It seemed like the staff and the officer were scamming the guests in order to receive money from the fine. The way they approached the issue was completely scary, unnecessary and absurd. We COULD NOT believe what we saw. The police officer took several photos of the guests wearing the incorrect shorts and standing shirtless, embarrassed and scared, and wrote them a citation and charged them a 500 Ringgit (120 USD) fine. I felt so bad for these guests but since they were intimidated by being surrounded by 3 staff and a police officer, didn’t know the local language well, they were scared and paid the fine. One of the staff members stated that he was the general manager. After they walked away from the guests, the staff and officer huddled in a corner talking and laughing and appeared to be happy that they were able to get money out of the situation. It 100% seemed like a scam and a shakeup by staff and the officer to get money. They could have at least given them a warning or kindly informed them about their policies. But instead they went directly to harassment, calling the police, and a fine.
After that final incident at the pool, my friend and I immediately went to our rooms and stayed there until we checked out the next day as we were in fear of the staff at this point. We didn’t want any issues to where we would be in trouble for something and unable to leave the country and detained for something made up. We could not believe what we had witnessed at our stay at this hotel. Looking at the previous reviews it appears that they also did this to someone else over a vape machine and called the police on them as well. If this isn’t a scam, then I don’t know what is.
I WOULD NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone and it is BY FAR the WORST hotel and hotel experience I’ve ever had. There are far better options...

I checked into Mövenpick KLIA shortly after midnight after a long international flight. Check-in was quick and smooth, which I appreciated. I was given a room on the 5th floor, but it required a long walk through a corridor that felt quite humid, as if the air conditioning wasn’t functioning properly. The smell was tolerable, and thankfully, the room itself was cool and clean. The bed was comfortable, and I initially felt good about the stay.
However, things quickly took a turn. I noticed some expected amenities were missing and had to request them. Then, I ordered a double cheeseburger and cheesecake from room service since I was tired and hungry from the flight. Unfortunately, shortly after eating, I began to experience a severe stomach ache that lasted through the night. I couldn’t sleep well and had to skip breakfast the next morning due to how unwell I felt.
I tried going out for a walk and some shopping, hoping movement would help. Sadly, the pain worsened. On my way out, I informed the front desk and was told the manager would be notified and I’d get a follow-up — but no one ever got back to me. That lack of care was frustrating.
My main reason for transiting through KLIA was to do some shopping, but I couldn’t finish due to my condition. I had to rush to the pharmacy in the mall for medication, which helped a little. I returned to the hotel early, packed, and went to check out. At that point, I asked to file a formal complaint and was directed to the duty manager, Mr. Shaun.
Mr. Shaun was the saving grace of this experience. He listened attentively, sincerely apologized, offered to take me to a clinic (which I declined due to my flight), arranged a complimentary airport transfer, and assured me the incident would be investigated. He was incredibly professional, supportive, and kind — a clear example of how a duty manager should act in difficult situations.
As an Accor member, I’ve always trusted the safety and quality of food at their hotels. This is the first time I’ve had such an unfortunate experience. I even took vitamin C before bed, and I’m convinced it helped prevent the situation from worsening.
My sincere thanks to Mr. Shaun and the checkout team for their support. But overall, due to the food issue and the lack of response from the first staff member, I don’t see myself returning to...
Read moreTwice in a year, I’ve returned to Mövenpick Hotel & Convention Centre KLIA, and it’s no accident. Just 10 minutes from KLIA airport via a free shuttle, it puts you right at the heart of your journey. I’m not a frequent Mövenpick guest, but this place hooks me with its blend of comfort and value that outweighs minor flaws. The standout feature? Spacious rooms, where after a long flight you feel a breath of fresh air and room to stretch out, with comfy beds and thoughtful design.||The staff here shine. They reply to emails quickly, sometimes with delays, but it’s more than acceptable, and you sense genuine care, not just duty. Another perk is the free shuttle to Mitsui Outlet Park nearby—pop in, grab a deal, and your travel budget gets a little boost.||If they offered long-term luggage storage, this hotel would be the perfect hub for exploring Malaysia or neighboring countries. For now, it’s a dream, but it still holds up well.||There are a few caveats. The hotel isn’t new—first mentions date back to the early 2010s, when it was built as a modern complex near the airport. Years of hosting transit passengers and business events have left some wear. But it didn’t bother me—this is a 5* hotel, and it holds its standard: rooms are clean, furniture is solid, and the corridors stay quiet. The lift screens still advertise an Executive Lounge, but it’s currently closed. Instead, guests are directed to a zone in the Temasya café on the ground floor, where behind a partition— as seen in the photo—lies the lounge area. During the day, they serve drinks and a variety of treats, echoing the Mövenpick Sweets Hour vibe, which is a delight. Evenings bring light snacks: in 2024, it was something hearty like fried rice, handy with no restaurants nearby, while in 2025, it’s lighter fare. It’s nice to sit with, but not filling. Alcohol is banned, fitting its Muslim-Friendly status, and I appreciate that—it adds a cozy feel. Still, without a proper Executive Lounge and with light snacks, something more substantial in the evening would be a welcome trade-off.||Sometimes, flying in or out of KLIA, you can spot the hotel from the plane window—a nice little touch. In the end, Mövenpick KLIA delivers reliability and care near the airport. Spacious rooms, responsive staff, and access to the outlet enhance the experience. The city calls, and this hotel is my launchpad. Will I return? Definitely, whenever I need to be steps...
