The hotel is unfortunately very outdated and is not maintained. Nevertheless, you can spend a nice holiday here, but the price is absolutely not justified. we paid 640 RM (140€!) per night! If the price were adjusted to Malaysian conditions and the conditions of the room, I would give it 4 stars.

You should also be good at dealing with bad smells in the bathroom.

Now in detail:

The door to the room has a bad lock. We are 5 people but only got one key. That was sometimes a bit awkward.

When we arrived, the bathroom and fridge were in a terrible state.

The sink had a lot chalk and black edges around the fitting. The mirror was very dirty, leftovers from brushing the teeth of the 20 previous guests stuck to it.

The cups were used and sticky, weren't cleaned before we moved in.

The toilet was really bad. Everything was yellow and sticky, hair stuck to the edge, screws for mounting were missing or had black dirt all over. Likewise the rinse.

The hose to the toilet was black and smelled moldy.

Also in the shower everything was full of lime, that could easily be made shiny with a little lemon...

The two soap dispensers were also sticky and stained. Hasn't been cleaned for a long time.

Corners in the bathroom were black. the smell was only okay for the first five minutes after cleaning. we always hurried in the bathroom because it got bad.

The folding bathroom door was broken and had holes in it, especially at the bottom from all the water.

The bathroom always smelled like urine. Except for a maximum of 1 hour after brushing if fragrances have been sprayed. You could also smell the smell from the neighbors. we always hurried in the bathroom because we were getting sick.

The fridge was in parts black and moldy on the inside and smelled.

The safe was still locked by the previous guest and therefore not usable.

Instead of the booked 41sqm sea view, we had about 27sqm. On request, the balcony or the terrace will be counted. However, the terrace cannot be used as it is located directly on the street. The balcony is very very small as half is covered by a totally unnecessary jacuzzi. Who wants to lie in public opposite the street in a "hot" tub that only has cold water?

The beds were very uncomfortable. The mattress is very hard and every movement, no matter how small, wakes up the partner.

The pool area looks very nice. There are also enough showers and water to wash your feet. Here, too, some renovations would unfortunately be necessary. On the pool floor, some tiles are very sharp, my son cut his foot and bled. There is little shade.

Beach:

The beach is very beautiful. It's always clean and there's plenty of space. The parasols are broken or have hardly any straw left on the roof.

Altogether there are too few beach chairs and also broken beach chairs.

The restaurant is rather carelessly designed

Black mold was in plastic square jars. The food is ok.

the photos show the condition of the bathroom when we arrived. after the first complaint it was cleaned and it still looked the same. Only the second complaint brought some...

Stayed here March 16 - 19, 2017. The first Seaview room we got was crawling with ants, so we swapped to another room just next door. Seaview rooms are all on the 2nd floor, just above the Dive Centre and Kitchen. The rooms are warm and stuffy, and the aircon did not do much even when it's set at "16 degrees," but the room fan helped to circulate the air. Once, when I opened the balcony door, I actually found that the ocean breeze outside felt cooler than the room. Also, for "Seaview" rooms, you won't get much of a sea view because of the power lines and the watch tower blocking the view.

Our room had a small balcony, but we've seen better balcony set-ups -- this one just had some non-lounge-able stools with no laundry racks. Come on guys, we're on a beach! We'll do beach-y things which involves clothing articles needing to be dried... And the bathroom has only got one 2-in-1 body and hair shampoo soap dispenser, so my advice would be to bring your own soap and conditioner. There's NO other toiletries either -- no toothpaste, toothbrush, barsoap, etc.

The wifi isn't strong enough to reach the rooms, so you will only get it in the reception + restaurant, if you sit just below the router. In our 4 days here, the power cut out 8x and water stopped 1x. Sometimes electricity would be out for HOURS. The swimming pool has floating dead bugs and it's not chlorinated; also, don't bother hanging out by the pool cuz there are NO lounge beds/chairs. There are also NO lounge beds/chairs along the beach.

The whole resort feels like it's going through some growing pains. Why 2 stars? One for the friendly staff (both at the resort and at the dive / recreation centre); and one for the amazing beach. It is one of the best swimming beaches I've visited, the sand is soft and very very few shells and zero garbage. And on the plus side, I managed to get some surfing and boogie boarding done! The waves break quite close to shore, and the sets are quite frequent when they come, but in between sets could take some time -- it's a beach break.

I thought it was a ripoff that we needed to rent the recreational equipment; I fully enjoyed my Langkawi and Perhentian stays, where the other recreational stuff was free-of-charge. But here's the thing that really irritated me most: when we wanted to rent things, the first question we were asked was -- "how long will you rent it for?" (they charge rental by the hour). How hard is it for the staff to just record when equipment is taken out and then charge us when we're back??? Why bother asking how long we're going to be out doing stuff when we're on vacation??

The food was "ehhh ok" compared to the food I've had in Malaysia. Snorkelling trips were ok too, we saw some Napolean fish, a Sea Turtle, and a baby Shark. Last advice, remember it's Asia, so expect ants, flies, mosquitoes and other flying bugs...

Barat Tioman is placed at a very good location close to some reefs and turtles also come to this beach to lay egg's,  also near jungle tracks to go trecking, so Tioman Island itself has not dissapointed.

However when it comes to Barat, it is a good thought and idea to place a resort, but the place is not maintained at all and very dirty.

Things that are good: The staff is very helpfull specially a male member who attended to all our needs, expect the daytime manager, who is not at all customer friendly, she was very judgmental, and treated the guest differently.

E.g. we got a price for travelling back to Tekka village, but the day after, she changes the age limit, even though they already sent a message to us about the age limits and details are on their webpage.

We wanted to change rooms because it was smelly, but even though there were other people who got other rooms she told us none were available - she didn't try to help it seemed.

The evening staff however was much more helpful, so we allways waited till the evening to get help.

Pros Very friendly staff except for one Near the beach Good food but expensive compared to mainland. Rooms water pressure is very good Modern facilities - fridge, water boiler etc. Well lit room No key operated electronics so can on the aircon and leave, to come back to a cold room There is also fan option, we rarely ventilate because of bugs

Cons Toilet smell - spreads to the room as well, specially if you go for a morning walk at the beach and come back, you can't tollerate it, we had to use our own deodorants and parfumes to keep it out.

Cleanliness of bedsheets - many dirty spots, it makes us think if they are even washed.

Cleanliness of toilet, they just spray around with water everywhere and leave it to dry by itself. No chemicals (except for toilet) was used to clean the surfaces.

Dust/Dirt on table when we arrived Floor not mopped, dust in sides and a lot under the bed.

Glasses not polished, mirror not clean

Balcony not cleaned at all, dust sand everywhere, the people befor us left a juice box outside on the railing only on the 4th day it was gone.

Sewage smell everywhere Towels are dirty - bring your own people uses the hotel towel for everything from floor mat to table cleaning cloths (but this is not the hotels fault though) Remote control dirty, not cleaned at all Run down, no maintenance No bug net for doors? Better to ventilate if there was

This is maybe ok for the locals, but as tourists, it is not up to the standard I expected for the price, and the location alone can't carry the price they ask for it.

It looks like they are more intrested in expanding rather than...
