The Westin Los Cabos Resort Villas is a very nice resort located between San Jose and downtown Cabo. The property is very spacious and has amazing ocean views. This was our first trip to Cabo, and we really enjoyed the resort and visiting both downtown areas. The resort is about 25-minutes from downtown Cabo and San Jose, so if you don't have a rental car, you can easily grab an Uber. Below a list of pros and cons of the Resort:
Pros The resort is very well maintained, however there was some construction projects going on during the day. They did not interfere with our enjoyment of the adult pool area. The staff are incredibly accommodating and took great care of us. From David who made sure we had everything we needed at the pool, to Alicia and Sebastian who ran the various events and were both my Pickleball partners through the week. The 2-bedroom villa we had was spacious, modern, and well appointed. Plenty of hot water in the showers, and the master has its own balcony, plus one in the family room. Wi-Fi was excellent throughout the property, and there is a nice business center if needed. We rented a car, and the valet had it ready every time we had called down to head out (I found driving in the area to be very easy, it's a straight shot to downtown Cabo where we visited about 5-times for different activities). The restaurants all share the same overall menu which has a good variety of choices, which was fine for us since we went out to dinner several nights. There is a market which is well stocked, and we visited the local supermarket Fresko to stock-up when we arrived. In the evening the resort is pretty quiet, but we enjoyed watching the World Series at the sports bar, where they also have a few pool and foosball tables. My wife enjoyed 2 spa visits with Maria who she said did an excellent job both times. For pickleball they have sessions every morning at 9:00 AM with a tournament on Thursday mornings. They provide paddles if you don't have one. The staff runs pool activities each day like bingo, Blackjack tournaments, water aerobics, tequila tastings, etc. Unlike other Marriott resorts we've stayed at, we never had an issue getting prime seating around the pool area, even though we came down most mornings around 9:30 AM. There are also a whole set of beach chairs on the beach if you prefer that.
Cons The resort is quite large, and navigating from the lobby to your room can be a decent walk and a bit confusing. There are ramps in certain areas, but this was an on-going discussion with other guests. While there is a nice beach, due to the risk of rip tides, you must sign a waiver if you want to swim in the ocean. You'll want to pick your time carefully, since the waves come crashing in very strongly at times, and there are rock outcroppings you will want to give a wide berth to.
Travel Tip - I typically get local currency from an ATM when traveling. I noticed the service fees at most ATM's were quite high, ranging from $10 - $100 USD depending on how many Pesos you wanted. On our next visit I would request the local currency from our bank since you can always use any leftover Pesos to offset your hotel incidentals when you check-out.
We would certainly visit again, and the end of October had perfect weather all week with no rain and minimal...
Read moreWe stayed here for 6 days/5 nights and had a lovely visit. ||||||We stayed in a 1 bedroom (434) and it was huge and spotless on arrival. The outside area was also very large to spread out. It was a full kitchen with an oven, dishwasher, toaster, and more. There was also a washer/dryer. You could certainly make lots of meals in here. There were also 2 toilets and 2 showers.||||The staff was all very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Adrianna especially (thank you!) we ate and went to the pools at the Westin. We did use the Baja Point pool one afternoon and it was nice and quiet. ||||Covid: The hotel felt very safe. The Staff was all masked, everything was sanitized. Housekeeping doesn't come in your room. The most unsafe thing was all the guests who didn't abide by the rules. There were signs EVERYWHERE to wear your masks but people were just not following the rules of the hotel and I don't think staff wanted to cause issues. Like seriously, if you are reading this and planning on going, be a good person and JUST FOLLOW THE RULES!||||Transport - to get an uber you had to walk down the hill to the gate where the Westin check-in is. Then order the Uber. Took from 5-15 minutes each time. The hotel quoted us a taxi of $40 USD to get to San Jose. Uber was like $13. So be prepared to wait. Also during drop off, they can't take you up to Baja Point so be prepared to walk or ask for a golf cart.||||Two small things:||1. I booked via Marriott.com, when you book your confirmation and everything comes up as the Westin, and Baja Point seems like it's in the same place. But it's actually up the hill and a separate check-in. So when we organized our transport from the airport and grocery delivery we had it sent to the Westin. So that was really confusing. They should make that super clear. ||2. On our last night (a Wednesday) the guests below us were partying around 11pm, we went to sleep and then were woken up by them still partying around 2am. We called the front desk to tell them and security showed up at our room asking about noise, so I had to send him to the right room. The hotel is really family-oriented so I wasn't sure how security or anyone else didn't stop the party...
Read moreThis whole place is a disaster! If you’re not an (timeshare) owner, don’t book.
I rarely write negative reviews. But this is such a bad experience especially given it has 4.7 stars on Google Map. The consumers especially non-owners deserve to know what you get. If I knew, I would have booked the hotel instead, or another Bonvoy hotel.
Firstly, our Uber XL are not allowed to enter the property- even Waldorf allows Uber with valid reservations. We are transferred to their dinky cart under the sun with big luggages. And there is dirty water near the curb.
Secondly, the service is very bad - we came around 10am and was told by a front desk lady that the room should be ready in a couple hours. 12:30 we checked it was not ready, 4 hours after we arrived around 2PM it was not ready. And around 2:30 it’s finally ready. But we got a room at the first floor that has no ocean view at all from the room, very different from the pics shown on the BONVoY app. Since this is our last night in Cabos, we didn’t bother to ask for a room change.
What’s more depressing is that there is no elevator to the first floor. We were planning to pay tips to the bellman but really didn’t expect this - we have two luggages, one 30 inches. He surely deserves some good tips.
Last but not the least, we were told that BONVoY elite members don’t get early checkin benefit because we’re not the owners….
We booked it for one night last minute through Chase because we realized our light is one more day later than our resort, and the rating of the resort is very good, 4.7 at this time.
—————————————— What’s even worse is that after the one night stay, we have more problems - no ocean view as shown in BONVoY app and Chase; very noisy because the wall, ceiling and door is super thin, we hard a parent yelling at their child, door banging, laud noise moving tables or chairs upstairs; leaking in the bathroom ceiling during midnight - we found dirty water on the ceiling and floor in...
