These are nice cottages with great potential but there are a few missing pieces to the experience, especially for the price. We had booked a jr. suite with kitchenette, last minute a few days before our stay. La cima was one of the only hotels in the valle with good availability. When we arrived, we were given keys to one of the tiny rooms on the main property with no kitchen. When we asked why we didn’t get the kitchenette we booked they said there was “a problem” and we should’ve been notified (we weren’t) but that there would be no refund since the cottage where we were staying is “more expensive than the kitchenette”. Not sure how that could be, so we felt baited and switched. They offered to let us use the hotel’s kitchen? though and threw in free breakfast but perhaps wouldn’t have offered it if we didn’t ask. They forgot to tell us the breakfast didn’t start until 8:30am though. Didn’t bother to explain any other amenities and we were left to explore on our own. We are early risers and ended up waiting around for hours the first morning for coffee and for the place to open. With no information, we got an Uber to another breakfast place instead. Once we knew the breakfast time, the next morning the breakfast turned out to be good, tasty Baja style egg dishes. We received excellent service at the restaurant. The furnishing for the hotel and restaurant are all ikea. It’s in a good location, very clean and there’s a nice view, but there is still a lot of construction being done (paused or in the works—it’s unclear) on the grounds. The pool area, for instance, has a view of construction. The pool isn’t heated and neither is the hot tub. The grounds that are completed have beautiful gardens and vineyards. Even though it’s a newish place some stuff seems like it’s already worn. You can hear bathroom noise from guests in the adjoining room, which is a huge negative. The floors are freezing so bring thick socks or slippers. We received only one bathrobe for use during our stay. There is only instant coffee offered in the room. The rain shower water pressure is lacking and hot water goes in and out. Maid service did not refill our water some of the days. WiFi was spotty— you’re better off relying on cell service, which was fine on T-mobile/ telcel network. Maybe we should cut some slack since we visited during offseason and not high season. The reason for 3 stars is basically, for the price we paid We would’ve expected a lot more and for some of these finer touches to be present. It’s not a bad place to stay, just poor expectation setting and not great service for the price. We would’ve loved a cozy common area to warm up and relax before heading out for the day since we had such a tiny room. Or even cozy outdoor seating with blankets (there was a bit of a cold snap while we were there) would’ve been a nice way to enjoy the view. We ended up pulling our own chairs from the dining area to sit outside when the sun was out. They have fire pits outside, but not sure when they build fires. Keep working on the...
Read moreIt is a very beautiful property with some sweet loving dogs running around. Great seasonal pool but the jacuzzis are freezing. We paid an extra $ for an upgraded cabin and bottle of wine for our honeymoon celebration. When we arrived at dinner time we were starving but the restaurant was closed and there is no bar. It doesn’t exist. We understand closing early when it’s not busy so we asked them to turn the heat on the jacuzzi and went to dinner. When we got back it had barely heated up so we played some pool and finally realized it probably wouldn’t be warm until morning. We asked the grounds keeper to leave it on so we could use it in the morning. When we got up, it was ice cold; he had turned it off! Went down for a delicious breakfast and decided to head into the office to express our frustration with the amenities. We explained the whole thing and asked if we could just get a refund for the extra $50 we paid to upgrade to offset the lack of restaurant, bar, and jacuzzi (all of which were reasons for selecting this hotel). They passed us around for 30 minutes and finally agreed to refund us but promptly sent someone to take the wine out of our room!!! It was unreal honestly. My husband was handling the process and I was in the room changing. The lady just opened the door and let herself in while I stood there wide eyed. If you are going to stay here, call ahead if you want to use the jacuzzi later (also no spa services on-site like they advertise), check if the restaurant will be open if you are coming hungry, and bring booze... there is no bar. I recommend the place up the street. Maglan has beautiful grounds with delicious food. Be aware there’s no paved parking so if it rains you don’t want to be...
