Maglén Resort by GuruHotel — Hotel in Baja California

This place is very picturesque and the esthetic is great for pictures. However, Nothing is what is advertised. To be frank, it was not the worst place I've stayed at but definitely not worth the price or the hype. I hate to leave negative reviews for small businesses but they claim to be the biggest resort in the Valley. So, here we go........

Check-in is 3PM. We arrived at 2:53 pm and were informed the room was ready. But they will not release the room to you until 3 on the dot. They love to remind you of their "exclusivity" and have you wear a wristband throughout your stay. These were never checked at any point throughout our stay. Due to point 1, there is a certain amount of gatekeeping from the employees. Not sure if maybe they're just rude or having a bad weekend , but I am pretty sure its the Culture of the Establishment. We were told rooms only slept 2 people. Then were provided a room with a Futon as a couch. Huevo Republic Restaurant- they do give you a $130 peso credit towards breakfast. But the food is very lackluster and the service from our waitress left much to be desired. (i.e when forgetting to bring your order, would seem bothered when reminded) again, probably the culture of being told they are providing "luxury" The rooms are very spacious, the AC pumps, but the beds are like sleeping on an airport bench and their sheets are way too small for the already small "queen bed" . Nothing screams "exclusivity and luxury" like Ikea placemats on the wall, and a Futon as a love seat. The toilets don't flush properly causing one to open the toilet tank to flush almost every time. Shower Drain; does not. Unless you enjoy standing in a puddle of yours and who ever shower before you soup. Winery-Wine was good- maybe they should stick to that . Yumano Restaurant- we were very excited to try. We were a large party of 11 celebrating a birthday during a Holiday weekend. We went on their website and made a 8:45 pm reservation. With text and email confirmation we arrived at 8:40 only to be told they closed at 9 and would not be able to accommodate. Both times we walked by the restaurant it was empty. We were turned away by the head Chef who did apologize and provided ingredients to make quesadillas back by our room (we brought our own grill) . Our tour guide gave very misleading information. Regarding the hours of operation of the facilities. Examples being the restaurant hours and the "famous lovers walk way" thats supposed to be illuminated at night. Which was not.

Again, the place is nice on the eyes and has really good wine. But there are better and more economic places to stay in the valley. This was also the consensus amongst other guests we made small talk with at the "resort" and we all agreed on one thing. This place would be our...

The grounds are very nice and themed with a stylish tone. It was very quiet the weekend after the 4th of July. Be aware if you are booking w friends, the property has separate areas that you must drive in between in most cases, which could be good or bad depending on your plans as a group at the hotel. The jacuzzi where our room was "Villas" only had 2 jets on or maybe those blowers were from the filter. Water wasn't coming from 4 of the other jets and the heated water was warm and not reaching 102 degrees. Our room itself was definitely not luxury but adequate. The toilet didn't flush, I had to make simple adjustment. The shower water went off for about a minute while showering. The shower water would go cold when the sink turned on or toilet flushed. One of the entry doors from our room didn't lock, so glad nothing was taken. the internet had a very poor connection, it didnt reach downstairs at all Where our bedroom. And lastly my truck was hit in their parking lot, I'm assuming a maintenance vehicle hit it because of the dirt at the dent and height of the dent. This review is a day later and I still haven't received a call or email about the security footage being reviewed. Overall the property looks good in pictures, has good landscaping and some friendly staff but overall the bad internet and dent on my 2023 vehicle is too much of an expense for me to be happy about my experience. Of course unfortunate things happen in life but they should be resolved in a fair and timely manner. I will definitely update review for consumers awareness and hotels justification if adequate intentions are initiated to resolve the car dent issue. Update 7/29/25. They never responded. Responded. The customer service was terrible here. I booked a stay for July 4-8 for my wedding weekend. I normally do not care to leave a review but just stay for the story. Right off the bat checking in lacked a warm welcome and greeting from the front desk. The wristbands are incredibly pointless and I was told I couldnt take it off even though I told them I was there for my wedding and would need to take pictures. I forget the guys name but the one who helped us didnt even try to find a solution, his colleague needed to step in to say they could just issue a new one if I took it off. (Which of course I DID). When brought to our room the man said he has been married before and now divorced so anything could happen! Who says that to a couple about to get married especially when you are in the hospitality business?? So awkward and unnecessary. Then I stayed at La Cima for July 4 and 5 because the plan was for Maglen resort to be our wedding night room (July 6). So, I left my wedding GOWN in there. This is the worst part.. For some reason I had a weird feeling leaving my dress alone. So I sent my then fiance to check on it. When he arrives to the room the dress was GONE. Wasnt where we left it in the closet. So he calls the lobby and long story short it was in the LOST IN FOUND!! IN A BLACK TRASH BAG!! In what world does a hotel REMOVE belongings from a room that is BOOKED without calling?? emailing?? to check on the situation??? Honestly incredibly off putting.
