My husband and I spent a week at Casa Karma with 14 friends and also hosted our wedding for about 80 guests here during our stay. We cannot recommend Casa Karma enough, the house and the property are beautiful, the pictures online don't do it justice. From the time we arrived, every detail was taken care of and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a good vacation.
Rooms: The rooms are all great, but #7/Bugambilia is probably the lowest ranked because it's on the main level without a balcony, there is a little less privacy here and it's bathroom situation is kind of awkward. Additionally, room #4/Agave says it's for 4 people, but in reality it would only really work if it's 4 children. It's two small beds, which worked fine for our group but we're glad we didn't try to squeeze four people into there for a week. Every room technically has an ocean view and all but Bugambilia have balconies. Housekeeping kept them clean and tidy every day and we had no issues on that front.
Food: The Chef and all of his food was amazing, we gave him creative liberty with the menus and he did not disappoint. Dinner portions were restaurant-sized, so if you'd expect more of a traditional "tex-mex" size meal, you should request that. They were also more formal, which gave us an excuse to dress up a little bit and be treated to wine and several courses. Breakfast was always large and lunch was more casual so that people had flexibility to eat when they were ready. Nobody went hungry throughout our stay and they provided options for our vegetarian guest. We left early one morning for an excursion trip and the chef made us to-go fruit cups and burritos, we were definitely spoiled. They also were very accommodating when we had several guests visiting for the wedding that were not part of our Casa Karma list, as long as we let Paulina know in advance.
Venue: The wedding venue itself was nearly perfect - our guests raved about the location, scenery, etc. The only issue is that the fountains coming out of the wall were not functioning during our reception, but the large fountain in the garden was. We also had several items to be addressed prior to the wedding in the event space that Erika and Paulina quickly took care of.
Servers: The waitstaff (Josh and Robi) were attentive, they made sure we had drinks while we were in the pool or hanging around the outdoor area of the house. They also freshly made everything and put a lot of creativity into the drinks, kept the pool towels restocked, etc.
Villa Coordination/Booking: There was a review further down that mentions a lack of responsiveness from Paulina and Erika which I can say with certainty is not true. To make their lives easier, I recommend anyone booking here use WhatsApp and communicate directly with either of them - they were both very responsive before and during our stay. It helped us in being timely and organized in what our group wanted to eat, any special requests for activities, when we'd be arriving/departing, etc. Paulina saved our group several times with last minute taxis, organized a massage/spa day at the house, and brought in a service to do COVID testing for everyone. She was also good about bringing receipts for our purchased food/alcohol throughout the week to make sure we could keep our bills paid without one overwhelming bill at the end.
We definitely hope to return at some point and will be recommending this to our friends and family interested in an event or just a vacation in Puerto Vallarta...
Read moreIt was definitely was Karma staying at Karma. When looking for a magical destination to celebrate my sister’s milestone birthday, the PVR villa experience was intriguing. We have traveled the world, but had not considered renting a villa with a full staff. The privacy and customization offered us a luxurious vacation option that was treasured. Each guest had a private ensuite room with an ocean view. Since the property features state of the art security to protect guests, we felt so safe that we left our rooms unlocked with our belongings everywhere.
The villa was beautiful, modern, yet celebrated the authenticity of Mexico. The ocean view was endless at the pool and the spectacular sunsets were like colorful paintings. The property also provides an adjacent event space to celebrate special occasions for groups.
The staff exceeded my expectations and overshined the villa.
Javier, the chef delivered every meal with passion and artistry to meet our every whim and accommodated a vegan guest. There were some items that were so delicious, that we requested an encore. He made fresh, healthy and incredible dishes. Each morning began with a glorious breakfast. At our request, he even made us, for his first time, build your own tostada in a tortilla bowl. Some highlights include a Mexican tasing menu that represented different regions of Mexico, my sister’s 5 course gourmet chef tasing menu, homemade pizza, the best vegan asparagus soup of my life, watermelon carpaccio and much more. We loved the churros so much, that we requested a private churro lesson from Javier. I also want to add that all the festive dishware and glassware was so beautiful and authentic that it made each meal extra special.
Joshua was our amazing bartender and so much more. He was always 2 steps ahead of us preparing fresh custom drinks, making sure we had pool towels and knew everyone’s whereabouts and interests. Josh also owns a vegan bakery and brought us his specialties daily. I highly recommend visiting Pania Bakery.
Paulina, the House Manager was beyond fabulous as she made each day magical. Her humble and gracious personality is a delight to work with.
The housekeepers were kind and kept everything sparkling.
I also appreciated that the pool was serviced daily and the property was well maintained.
Concierge services provided extra special activities that included private luxury transportation services, live music, a fire dancer, a private tour, private spa treatments, private yoga class, private yacht adventures, DJ at the pool, glam squad services, decorations, fresh flower arrangements and FIREWORKS. All these activities made our stay extra special.
Charlotte, our travel agent takes customer service to another level by providing outstanding detailed services to ensure everything was extraordinary and accurate.
I would highly recommend Casa Karma as it is a win-win property complimented with exceptional staff. I was ready to book my next visit before my...
Read moreOur family recently stayed at Casa Karma as part of a wedding party and were quite disappointed with the experience. The intention of my review is to give additional insight to couples/families that want to consider the needs of small children when deciding on their wedding venue with the intention of renting the villa for your stay as well. This venue is not kid-friendly at all and is designed for an adult only group. The stairs are dangerous, the pool is too deep for young children, and there are no amenities or activities designed for kids.
Additionally, the venue is dated. One of the bath handles didn't work, and the overall decor and facilities felt old and in need of an update.
To make matters worse, we were charged an outrageous $200 for a pack and play, which is something that most other home rentals/venues/hotels include for free. This unexpected expense added to our frustration and made us feel like we were being nickel-and-dimed for an already unacceptable experience. The pack and play was old and we could have purchased a new one for less than that and donated it to a local needy shelter on our way out. So it isn't as if they had to source one, specifically for our stay.
We understand that this is intended to be a villa, a whole home rental rather than a traditional hotel or resort. However, if you are looking for top amenities (pool, beach access, accommodations), kid-friendly spaces, or an open kitchen/restaurant, this is not the place for you.
We had the opportunity to spend a day at a resort just 5 minutes away. The views there are just as spectacular, if not more so. The service was incomparable, breakfast was included, and the rooms were absolutely beautiful.
Overall, I would NOT recommend Casa Karma for families with young children or anyone seeking a modern, more luxurious,...
