We needed a break but didn’t want to go too far from home in Mexico City. We had been to Tepoztlán a couple of times before for day trips, so we decided to spend a weekend there. Most of the “nice” hotels we found on-line were quite expensive – 4 or 5,000 pesos per night (around $300 or $400 US dollars) or more, but Quinta GYO was much more reasonable, so we chose it. Although there were very few reviews for it (it turns out, because it has only been open a few months), they were all positive, so we took a chance.||||We were welcomed by one of the owners as we got out of the car, and then treated to a complimentary glass of “Italian champagne” as we checked in. Both of the owners were very personable and made us feel at home. (It’s a small boutique hotel with only eight rooms.) They speak Spanish and English, and apparently some other languages as well.||||Everywhere we went in the grounds, we had views of the surrounding mountains. Sitting by the swimming pool, you see a massive mountain façade just in front, and you feel like you’re right at the base.||||Our room was decorated in the Mexican style, not the typical bright oranges and reds, but in soothing greens and creams, with a king-size bed with a huge classical headboard. The absence of a television turned out to be very nice. Since we were there to relax, it gave us the chance to chat, to read, and to enjoy the oversized jacuzzi. Everything was very clean and well maintained.||||The breakfast consisted of coffee and juice, a fruit plate, and a main course (typical Mexican cuisine – chilaquiles or eggs with beans) that was prepared to order. The food was good, and service, very friendly.||||We spent most of the time at the hotel, except to go out for dinner. Driving to the center of Tepoztlán took about 10 minutes, but since the cobblestone roads are so picturesque and we had to search for parking, we decided to walk the second evening, which only took 20 minutes or so.||||I definitely recommended Quinta GYO for a romantic getaway with...
Read moreLike another reviewer, I decided to give this place a chance based on the reviews; while there weren't very many, all of them had highly rated this small B&B-type hotel. We were not disappointed. Located a short drive from town and practically at the base of the mountain, the views from any part of the property are incredible. The hotel has a small pool area, a bar, and offers a complimentary breakfast in the morning, complete with fresh fruit and juice, coffee or tea, and chilaquiles or eggs made to order. The rooms are new, clean, and inviting, and the large jacuzzi for two was just what we needed to wind down and relax.||The service is excellent, and Greg and Vangie were very attentive throughout our entire stay. They made sure we were comfortable and had everything that we needed, and also had great restaurant recommendations. ||It looks like this new place is gaining popularity quickly, so...
