Gran Hotel Mexico — Hotel in Puebla

A tired old ruin in a great location between the main square and the ADO bus station begging for a full on renovation. It had the feel of an old hospital or nursing home. ||||Check-in was smooth enough but our spacious junior suite lacked a working air conditioner, the toilet leaked water into a drain in middle of the bathroom (making it unavoidable to get our feet wet), wifi was spotty and unreliable, the TV had very poor reception and its remote control had to be replaced. Hot water took a couple of minutes to arrive but it was plentiful. ||||What most annoyed us was an attempt to double charge our prepaid room during checkout. We had to call Orbitz to have them convince the front desk person that we had already paid for the room online, a process that wasted 25 minutes but was resolved to our satisfaction. We do not...

Arriving exhausted from the Puebla airport bus (which the terminal is around the block an easy walk to Hotel), I was welcomed by staff & given choices of rooms (that was nice). Next morning (as i did every morning) I ate a delicious light breakfast. I lounged by the pool, swam (a little cool) but hey it's Winter. 30 degrees suited me fine & each day mid 20's. The Hotel is extremely old, beautiful courtyards, well kept surroundings, super clean all throughout. The staff are exceptional & very accommodating...great to make mistakes in Spanish & learn as well as being able to help with a little English. I would definitely recommend the Hotel it is in the Centro of the city. Shops of all sorts right out the door. I have stayed here 5 nights and would stay again!
