September 14th, I checked into Sukha hostel, when I came from three months in Playa del Carmen. When I first arrived, it seemed like a phenomenal hostel. It was very quiet my first couple days, just myself, the manager Paco, and the two volunteers Karla and Alexa. Several days later, after other guests had left, Karla told me that had Alexa complained to her that I was cockblocking her when she was talking to a guest Stefan. I didn’t even know the circumstances of what she was talking about but found it incredibly offensive, even in a hostel, that a volunteer/ employee would speak about a customer like that. I stopped interacting with Alexa at that point as I don’t want to deal with any confrontation. ||||Apparently, Karla told Alexa that she told me what Alexa said. Alexa tried to deflect while we were in the common area, saying she was joking, but clearly it was not joking if it was repeated back to me as, “she said she wished you weren’t there.” I planned on extending two more weeks at the hostel, but further circumstances made me switch to another place. Throughout my stay, the cousin of the owner would come to the hostel to bang local girls or party if he didn’t have one to bang. Bear in mind he is not a paying guest, he would just arbitrarily show up with a female or a bunch of local guys who want to drink. This is incredibly offensive for a multitude of reasons. ||||Customers are paying for security and peace while traveling; having someone who brings in multiple random characters to have sex with and party defies both those. Several nights before I switched, one of the volunteers Karla, had a friend visit who was also volunteering in Mexico. Without fail, Alex’s cousin showed up with 5 or 6 other people, who proceeded to blast music and party until 5:00am, regardless of the sleep of actual paying customers. When I was awoken at 3:30am, I spoke to Paco in the common area who said he understood but did nothing to end the noise or party. I asked him for Alex’s Whats App, and he said he would give it to me the next day, but never did. Alex actually showed up the day before I left, but failed to address the concerns I raised, so clearly he believes it is ok for him to run his business this way, bringing in random people to drink and screw, while paying guests are habitating and sleeping. ||||It is regrettable that I am leaving this review, as Paco is a really good guy, but evidently what I said about strangers went in one ear and came out the other; this is my last night here and this wannabe lothario came and stayed last night and is here again tonight. If anyone needs proof, or wishes to contest my account, I can provide photos and recordings of that raucous night. I suppose some people would stay here and not mind groups coming and going for free, but I personally find it despicable when other people are paying for the space. I will be charging back the full stay with the bank for not as described. Alex can reach out to me if he wishes to...
Read moreAfter horror stories with Airbnbs in San Luis Potosí I decided to try out a hostel for the first time ever and came here. Their service is excellent and feels extremely welcoming. You have total access to the kitchen during the hours that they’re open (closed during night hours to respect people sleeping). The roof top is has a great view and very comfortable for drinks with friends or to sit back, relax and enjoy. Rules and expectations are explained very well and I had great interactions with every employee and guest that decided to stay here. I’ll recommend this place to anybody coming to the San Luis Potosí capital for a few nights. You’ll have a lovely stay here, and it’s very conveniently located too. There’s a very busy Calle (street) Ignacio Zaragoza nearby, great food only minutes away, and the staff is ready with good recommendations for things around town too. I give this place five stars all around for sure. Lovely down-to-earth vibes here as well. I was able to be there for their one year anniversary under their current owner. I hope they get...
Read moreThis hostel is a gem in an excellent location. It is quiet, clean, and offers a spacious female only dormitory where each bed has a curtain to create private space. Access to kitchen and a very basic help yourself breakfast is offered. Bathrooms are adequate; a bit more attention would be preferred as far as cleaning during the day and hooks are recommended to hang clothes and towels.||There is a spacious roof terrace with seats, hammocks and a bar that was closed at the time of visit. A lounge area with TV and Netflix is next to the terrace. At my request, a place to dry clothes was created. How nice! Staff is extremely friendly.||Suggested improvement: lockers and hooks in bathrooms and near beds. A bit more cleaning of the bathrooms.||All in all, one of the best and friendliest hostels I have stayed. ||Greetings also to the German volunteers Sonja and Niki who were very hospitable and helpful at the time of my visit.||Great value and highly recommended! Would love...
