Howard Johnson by Wyndham Veracruz — Hotel in Veracruz

I came to this Hotel thinking that it might've been a little more upscale.It's an Older no frills Hotel that I very much grew to like along with The City of Veracruz they both to ne have a rustic charm about them.I think I was originally shown Room 102 which was a small room with I think a King Size Bed,Small Bathroom with a Shower + an Electronic Safe for valuables. However a Lady from The Front Desk was unable to fix my Electric Key Room Card no matter how many times she tried to fix it with some kind of Electronic Gizmo I think it was maybe a Code Reader so I was moved to Room 207 on The Next Floor up.The Staff at Howard Johnson there The Front Desk & Restaurant were friendly & happy to help if require any information price of a Local Bus,Ice for a Cooler etc. I can't comment about didn't eat at The restaurant as I ate my Meals off The Resort but it's there for an additional surcharge if you want Breakfast,Dinner etc they also have a Karaoke Night down in The Restaurant one or two days during The Week.I believe the General Manager was Angel who I'm glad was there because my own Espanol is pretty basic & limited so that Lady was a valuable help if I didn't have my phone with English to Spanish Translation App in me.The thing that I really like about the Hotel was the good Central Location I think it was in Boca Del Rio & the cool place to chill in The late Afternoon & Evening the Sixth Floor Roof where the Small Swimming Pool is located & the Amazing 360 Eagle Views & photos you can take of The Entire City & Seaport Bay 🦅..truly priceless.I'd say to anyone staying at this City who wants a Cheaper Good Hotel that is in a decent Location then maybe give this a try I don't think you would be disappointed.Who knows if I ever do revisit Veracruz I would sure consider this Hotel as a Solid Choice to stay I enjoyed my 8 Day stay from Friday October 28-November 5 2022.. I made the mistake of trusting the reviews on a 3rd party hotel comparison/booking site which were pretty good. Oh dear - I don't know where those people stayed but I don't think it was here.||||This hotel is awful. The rooms are so old and decrepit. We had booked a standard double and it was like a prison cell - grim & tiny. In fairness, they did give us an 'upgrade' when we really complained but whilst the new room was more spacious (a junior suite), it was just as tired, old and in urgent need of updating. ||||The hotel is on the opposite side of the road to the sea. It's quite a bit out of town but we did walk in - it took around 20 minutes through side streets so not a bad walk. There is off street secure parking just behind the hotel. There is a roof top pool and sunbathing area. The pool is small but probably good in the heat - we were there in January & the wind was gusting so it was pretty cold. Good views from the terrace though.||||The service was very poor - miserable & rude. Wi-fi worked in the lobby and although they had routers on every floor, the signal didn't make it reliably through the walls of the room so it was impossibly frustrating to use the internet in the room. We didn't eat in the hotel. ||||I can't find one reason to stay here - avoid...

I recently stayed at this hotel because we were attending a family wedding on the state of Veracruz. I made my reservations on-line and the fare was kind of fare, however when we got there surpraisly the rate changed. I spoke with Judith Amaro who by the way is the only person that can access your reservation on line and her attitude was awful, she gave us a lecture instead of a help. Be very careful, specially if you travel with in group, the charge you separately, but that;s not the problem. The problem is that they get so confuse that at the end if you book for only 2 they charge you for 3 and viceversa. It was imposible to speak with Ms.Judith Amaro so, I requested to speak with her supervisor Gabriela Bringas and nothing was done. She promised me that the bill will be charged accordently, however, now that I came back I reviewed my receipt and I was charged for 3 people instead of 2. They don't respect your on-line rate, but since we got there at the middle of the night we didn't want to argue anymore and we took the room that they gave us.
