I stayed for over three weeks at the Occidental Tanger Hotel, which gave me a very good impression of both the property and the service. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed at the 24-hour reception. Receptionist Madiha deserves a special mention: she greeted us with genuine friendliness, assisted us patiently and professionally throughout our entire stay, and bid us a courteous farewell upon check-out, expressing her hope to see us again. Her hospitality and personal attention truly added extra value to our experience.||Location|The hotel is ideally situated in a quiet area, within walking distance of the beach and promenade, and close to attractions such as Café Cappuccino, Casino Malabata, and downtown Tangier. Just behind the hotel lies a residential neighborhood with small shops, eateries, and cafés — perfect for daily essentials and a taste of local life.||Room & Comfort|Our room was spacious, modern, and soundproof, ensuring an excellent night’s sleep. It was equipped with air conditioning, a comfortable bed, a small refrigerator (handy for storing personal items), a safe, and even a kettle with coffee and tea. The pool view added a true holiday vibe. Housekeeping was regular and thorough, towels were replaced upon request, and bed linen remained fresh and well-kept.||Breakfast & Amenities|The breakfast buffet was extremely varied — from fresh fruit, bread, and pastries to hot dishes — there was truly nothing missing. I do find the price (about €12) slightly on the high side. The hotel also offers a beautifully maintained swimming pool with a friendly and helpful lifeguard, a fitness room (though a few more machines or free weights would be a nice addition), and excellent, fast Wi-Fi.||Service|The staff were generally very friendly and helpful. Any questions or requests were handled quickly, whether in person at the desk or by phone from the room. The team’s professionalism, combined with Madiha’s personal touch, made a real difference to our stay.||Highlights|• Ideal location close to beach and promenade|• Clean, spacious, and quiet rooms with good amenities|• Extensive breakfast buffet|• Beautiful pool and well-kept facilities|• Outstanding service, especially from Madiha||Suggestions for Improvement|• Breakfast hours could be extended for late risers|• A slightly larger minibar/refrigerator would be useful|• More parasols and towels at the pool would be appreciated||Conclusion:|Occidental Tanger combines comfort, hospitality, and an excellent location. With its well-maintained facilities, friendly staff, and the outstanding service provided by Madiha, this is a hotel I would gladly return to. Highly recommended for both tourists and...
Read moreOverall terrible hotel experience! Staff at the reception are just incompetent at almost everything. First, the woman at the reception refused to check me in despite me arriving during the regular check in hours and was checking in other guests claiming that they have early check in. Also, she had a very rude attitude and didn’t bother to explain anything in the hotel like where the restaurant is and didn’t provide any information for my stay. I had to keep asking her for everything. It was obvious that she was not interested in her job.
More importantly, on the same night of my check in, a guy tried to break into my room while I was inside. I don’t know how he was able to open the door with his keycard!! I repeatedly asked him to check with the reception and he forcefully pushed the door as I was denying him entry!! He put his leg to block me from closing the door, used his hands to push the door and was clearly attempting to physically break into the room!!! As I was preventing him from accessing on the other side, it took him a while to realize that this room was not his!!! I immediately went to the reception and the staff showed complete failure handling this incident! First, they didnt want to listen to what I was requesting since this was a near assault incident!! I asked for a camera proof because that was clearly a breach of my privacy to let strangers have access to other guests’ rooms!! I wanted to file a police report for that incident because I felt not secure as this could have happened while I am not inside and my stuff can get stolen! I asked for a documentation of that incident and they just refused to do anything literally and just told me to come the next day and complain to the management! They even refused to apologize for what has happened.
The room is really tiny and the bathroom lacks walls!! Otherwise, it was a very stressful experience and having to go through all this before completing one night of stay!!! One of the worst hotel...
Read moreI want to start off by giving a huge shout out to two staff members. I don’t remember their names exactly, one was a girl called Rosanna ? And the guy behind the bar with glasses who’s tall. They made our stay bearable and they deserve a raise.
Now, the photos are super deceptive. The pool especially does NOT look like what’s advertised.
There’s not enough sunbeds. They don’t allowed smoking around the pool however people did and this was not dealt with, but you are allowed to smoke inside. Which is gross. It would be great if there was a dedicated smoking area. The staff take forever to sort anything. I had to call three times to chase up our laundry and the cost was astronomical. $250 AUD for underwear (which was 90% of the laundry and some tshirts) There was one lady at the bar who was incredibly rude and clearly hated her job. She made us eat our food in the lobby (we had ordered from an outside restaurant) however we saw others eating the same food by the pool. The reason we ordered from elsewhere is because the food is overpriced and not great. The gym is tiny, locked half the time and unclean. There’s wires hanging out everywhere, half the machines don’t work. No weights. Only a few cardio machines. The pool opens late and even then the towels are not ready on time. They charge a huge amount over market price for water but don’t restock your room everyday. There’s lots of reviews about the cleaners stealing which made us very uneasy so we refused to have anyone in our room at all. The rooms are fine. The pillows are poor but the bed was fine and our room was spacious enough. The location of the hotel is out of the way but it’s easy to get an INdrive for cheap. Overall this hotel way overcharges for what it’s worth....
