In over 40 years of hosteling, I never arrived anywhere that was its own destination. “Hike and Chill” sums up the experience of the Moroccan traveler seeking new terrain to explore. Jamal has created an intoxicating work of art in the old Jewish quarter of Tingher (made famous by a French documentary) with colorful murals painted by guests (as a B&B work exchange) complementing the authentic home environment of his native Berber culture. Beyond the splendid “chill” salons and terrace with a view of the town, the palmera outside and the surrounding Atlas Mountains, Jamal is the perfect host offering outstanding personal service. It was uncanny how, for example, he perceived a need before I was even aware of it, whether it was a visit to the local haman, cautioning me to watch my step, or handing me my glasses that I didn’t even realize I misplaced yet! He also proved to be an excellent guide of a once remote and therefor unknown, yet fascinating, part of Morocco. His Atlas Mountain excursion into his native terrain unfolded the enigma of the Berbers — an answer to a dream providing an experience of unity of land, human and spirit that certain to be the...
Read moreBest hostel I've stayed in. Definitely recommend. Homestay is exactly the right word for the experience here. Jamal is the perfect host. Anticipating everything that I needed before I asked and always creating a warm and friendly atmosphere for all the guests with tea, food, candles, great views from the terrace, incredible decorations and artwork. Every detail has been considered and he has even more plans to improve the house! I intended to stay 2 nights and extended to 8! That's how much I felt at home here. Jamal provided great knowledge about the region, including helping me navigate a trek around Todgha gorge in the snow! The location is perfect, nestled between the city centre and the palm grove, in the historic Jewish quarter. Victor, a Brazilian guy who works with Jamal was very professional and considerate to the needs of everyone in the house. He showed me around the city and we visited many hidden shops of his friends together as well as the weekly market! It is a high price compared to the hostels but for what Jamal provides it is amazing value. I'll certainly be coming back to Tinerhir to stay here again. Thank you...
Read moreThe hike and chill hostel in Tinghir was the best experience of an overnight stay we had so far. Not only is there a lot to see around the city of Tinghir, the experience you get by booking with hike and chill is already worth the trip. Just watch out for one thing: the path to the hostel. Get in contact with the host via the hostel telephone number to get a video that leads you from the parking lots to the hostel. If you arrive, you'll be greeted with Thé or coffee and enter an amazing place with a lot of love for detail and astonishing artistry. Whatever you need for a good stay, you find here: Friendly staff, beautiful decorated rooms with the possibility to sleep privately or in a shared dorm, a beautiful terasse to enjoy sunset or a lovely meal cooked by your host (with the best barbecue dinner we had so far in Morocco). In addition, when you plan to go hike, do a city stroll, or just visit the beautiful surroundings of Tinghir, your host can help you with all of that! I can only recommend to give it a try and hope that many other travellers find their way to hike and chill hostel, as we did....
