Parking is just a short distance around the corner for just 3 dirhams for however long lunch takes. Hospitable and clean establishment that seems family-run. The salad is great - fresh tomatoes, thinly sliced red onions, and a surprise element of slices of oranges in a perky vinegar dressing with a liberal sprinkling of finely chopped herbs. The soup isn’t so remarkable. A French-style veloute of some kind of root vegetable. We appreciated how everything is under seasoned allowing the diner to season to their own taste. Similarly, tea comes with sugar on the side which is nice for people who don’t want theirs overly sweet. Bread isn’t great- it’s made from processed flour so isn’t substantial and flavorful like other breads we’ve had in Morocco. Olives were briny and great - especially the tiny bits of pickled cabbage here and there. For mains, we had the beef tagine and the kalea, which we ordered because we didn’t know what it was and felt like being adventurous. The beef tagine was tender and flavorful. The way the potatoes were nicely browned and caramelized and soaked up the rich broth was delicious. The kalea turned out to be cubes of chicken breast with diced vegetables and a runny egg in the middle. The chicken was dry but the flavor was nice. Overall a pleasant lunch stopover on the way to the Todra Gorge...
Read moreStopped here for lunch on the way from Merzouga to Dades Gorge. This ended up being one of the best meals we ate during 12 days in Morocco, in this small town where we stopped for ATM, gas and food (all within about 200m of eachother). The food was freshly made and delicious. The portions were the 2nd largest that we had during our trip (La Cantine des Gazelles in Marrakech took 1st place). The price was very cheap - around 150dh for 3 dishes. A note on this - we chose the menu of the day for 75ish dh each, but only asked for the main dishes and not the tea and dessert. I went to pay expecting to be charged the full price and the owner scratched out a bill for 150dh I was taken back and ended up tipping him another 10dh. I know, it's supposed to be this way but most of Morocco seemed to see Americans as piggy banks to overcharge. It was a very honest move by the owner and something I look back at...
Read moreDelicious food, amazing value, and a very welcoming owner. We drove past Tinghir on our way from dades gorge to merzouga. We actually drove past this restaurant and realized we needed to eat because the next stop was 2 hours away so we actually circled back because we saw the high reviews for this place. And we’re so glad we did. Best food we had during our 12 days in Morocco. And we’ve been eating at very highly google rated and blogger/ food magazine recommended restaurants and none of those restaurants had food as good as this place. I thought I didn’t like tajine until I tried it here. The chicken melted off the bone and the flavor was incredible. For 60 dirhams, we got olives (which were the best olives we had in Morocco), bread, chicken tajine (best dish we had in Morocco) and fresh melon (I normally don’t like but melon but I do now because of good and sweet...
