In February 2019, I organized a trip for Artist Late Brad Braune and his 14 students and friends. The two- week tour was planned for sightseeing, tours, shopping, interspersed with watercolor painting sessions. The group spent the first 5 days of the trip in Hotel Sunset view. Its a small hotel with less than 30 rooms. located close to the Airport, in a quiet neighborhood. The hotel is graced with a lovely Japanese garden and in season when Wisteria blooms its a paradise. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean, towels and sheets were a little worn out but clean. The manager Eric and Dawa runs the hotel very efficiently. the hotel was slightly understaffed, it could do better with 3 or 4 more service staff. The Japanese restaurant is excellent, we had a lovely Japanese/continental breakfast every morning. There is a lovely coffee shop across the Japanese garden, being in the proximity of the airport was very convenient, the kathmandu traffic is a nightmare. From here going on sightseeing tours, to the airport and getting out of the valley was very convenient. It is inevitable that first-time visitors to Nepal suffer from stomach upset, Luckily having meals in the Japanese restaurant helped and no one was sick. The quiet ambience, the evening sunset, and happy hours left us all with a very pleasant memories of...
Read moreI have been a regular customer here at Hotel Sunset View and I can say without hesitation that they're ONE OF THE BEST, if not the best in the restaurant industry! This place had always been me and my family's go-to for Japanese cuisine, and they did an excellent job with the food and service every time. Yes, it was quite a bit on the 'price-y' side, but the chefs there made sure that they gave their customers a bang for their buck every time!
Large food portions, amazing taste, and such a peaceful ambience with a great view of the sunset. My personal favourites were the Tendon, Sukiyaki set, and Zaru Soba (Cold Buckwheat noodles). The flavours were very consistent and I never had any complaints regarding the quality of the dishes either. I highly recommend them if you love Japanese cuisine.
It definitely saddened me to hear the closing of this place. So I go to other Japanese restaurants and I compare them to Sunset every time and Sunset always takes the crown for me. I really miss this place and really hope they return back and continue making people happy with their food and service. A...
Read moreThis was my first time to Kathmandu. The hotel is close to the airport which is nice so you don't have to spend too much time in a taxi. My work is with government ministry not faraway so the location was ideal. You have business or activities elsewhere this may not suit you.||||Rooms are nice and big and clean. The hotel restaurant has good food but the breakfast could be better.||||The view is great as the hotel is elevated. If you can get a room facing the city, you'll be pleased. It can be noisy in the morning but I guess this is case anywhere.||||Location is okay with some small shops and restaurants within walking distance.||||Not bad and I...
