I stayed a month at Hotel Jansen for a research stay and I strongly discourage anyone to go there, it has been an absolutely horrible and overpriced experience (2.700€/m for a 20m2 room).
Two out of the four weeks I stayed there, I got mails from the management that electricity would not work during the whole day during the week because of maintenance work (which meant also the WiFi, and I came there to have a quiet room with good WiFi for work). They couldn’t say which room would be affected when so I basically couldn’t plan when to do confidential zooms i.e.. When I said that I paid for a single room with good WiFi to work they just said I could work from the cafe in the basement. There is a techno club directly next to the hotel (Levenslang Amsterdam) and the windows are lousily dimmed, so every Friday and Saturday night you hear techno music until five o’clock in the morning up to the 6th floor. The AirCo is super noisy, too. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere with no infrastructure around, which is especially annoying if you stay there longer and cook for yourself. The next proper supermarket is 1,5km away and the hotel is in an industrial area which is completely empty and lost at night – doesn’t feel very safe for women. No cafe or restaurant nearby except the one from the hotel itself. The kitchenette that you pay pretty much extra for is absolutely minuscule and not properly equipped. I didn’t even had spoons for my cereals. But it’s better than the people with shared kitchen, my assistant regularly had rats in her shared kitchen. You pay hotel prices, but you don’t get the service except a cleaning once a week which is not hotel standard. At least the cleaning personnel is the only professional part oft he whole hotel. You can’t cancel or shorten your stay if you stay longer for 21 days, so be careful before you book. Return of deposit took three weeks, if you look at the one star reviews, it took much longer for other people.
If you talked to the staff, the only answer you got was that they can’t do anything about whatsoever. If you wonder why there are so many five-star-reviews: Look at the one-star-reviews (which mostly refer to the points I made above, so apparently it hasn't been an exceptional experience), one guy made a screenshot of a mail he got that he would be paid to give a good review. They say it’s scam but why should someone disseminate scam that they don’t profit from, but the hotel? 🤡
This is a place which mainly benefits from the desperate situation of students not finding a place to live because of the housing situation in Amsterdam. If you need a place for a long-term stay as a professional, go...
Read moreHonestly shocking from booking to leaving. We arrived at the hotel waited at the doors and for 10 minutes the two girls sat behind the bars on their phones. We then decided to sit down and waited another 20 minutes and still no greeting while we sat arranging our suitcases... We then went to the bar and spoke with them and left our luggage and they said they'd try to get us checked in earlier as requested at booking stage and via their chat. We returned at 2pm after receiving no updates or response to our message. We were ignored again and decided we would give more time so went to grab some quick food returning at 2.30pm seeing someone else checking in... This happened for a two more times... We then asked and they told us 25mins when it would be exactly 3pm.... Intentionally difficult and poor service, I would say yes... Would we stay here or recommend it? Certainly not, a greeting is the bare minimum and for no response and coming back to see the place pretty empty and the same lady sat in front of the computer on her phone again but cannot update or respond... It is already appauling to have check in at 3pm and check out 10am, i should have checked this beforehand of course but in no way did this contribute to this 1 star review.
When we mentioned about 3 other people being given rooms before us when they only advertise the same room, they were then rude about this telling us our room is not clean and not ready...
To also answer any other questions people may have, take a look at street view, we should have too and we would never...
Read moreAs for the basics, hotel satisfies them very well. Rooms are nice and well equipped. Only flaw was the air conditioning, don't think it works very well as I never noticed a change in temperature after setting it at different levels (friend staying in another room said so as well) and the air flow in my room was very noisy. After the first night, I inquired about it and I got a room switch, which was very nice of them to provide. After that, stay was very nice and comfortable. They have housekeeping cleaning the rooms which was nice to find out (did not think so). There's a laundry room and a kitchen for you to use too. I did not try out the restaurant so can't say much about it, only menu seemed a bit pricey. Location in relation to the city centre is quite well, not too far not too close, but as for the area surrounding the hotel, is in development too so getting there is a bit hard as there are no walkways. No shops close to it either. Extremely recommend getting a bike to get around BUT NOT at the hotel, price is 19€ a day which is stealing in my opinion. Rather get a DonkeyBike, which costs 25€ for one week. You can get one at the park area in the Overamstel, across the main road from the hotel area. Price for stay was good compared to other hotels in Amsterdam, but probably because it is new and still in development... depending on how much they raise it after they finish establishing, I will consider staying here...
