We had booked a room in this hotel, newly opened on the 15th of July (2022) My wife had explicitly asked for a bright room for three nights 16th to 19th July. When we were shown our room, it was a total shock. It was with black furniture and black curtains. It was a room, that could not have been darker, completely contrary to our booking wish. The lights had spot-light character and even in the early afternoon, we had to use a torch to see the buttons on the coffee-maker.This with all lights on and all curtains open! We immediately wanted to talk to the manager, but the lady at the desk said, the manager was out of town and could be reached on the next day. How is this possible, no responible person was present on the second day after the opening of the hotel! We at once cancelled our stay for the following two nights, but the staff was very uncooperative, said we had booked through „secret escapes“ this was not their responisibilty. On the second day, we were given a brighter room, furnished in light brown wood, which was not so depressing for us. But we still had to contact „secret escapes“ on our own to get a cancellation for the third night, which then was no problem at all. This the staff should have managed for us a day earlier. The toilet in the room was separate from the bath, which basically is a good idea, but there was no possibilty to wash hands in the toilet. Soap was only available in the shower. The positve side of the hotel was, that the mattresses were good. The manager presented us a half-bottle of champaigne and a box of tea-bagswith black tea, which we appreciated very much. But we did not appreciate the breakfast. The fruits were not served as whole fruits, no fruit-salad. Other items were packed up. But the waiters and waitresses were vey friendly. The hotel has chosen the name „Heavens Hotel“. This is an exaggeration to he utmost. The basic concept is far from „heavenly“. I would call our stay a „purgatory“-experience. There is more, that I could write, but I have mentioed only the main factors, to keep it short. We certainly will not go back to this...
Read moreFor our honeymoon we visit the heavens hotel in Hoorn the Netherlands.
The hotel is in the heart of the city center of the historical city of Hoorn. The hotel is located in an old church. Outside the hotel you can sit for a drink and you can also order food here. When you enter the hotel you are suppressed by the looks of the hotel. When we visited the hotel the hotel was just two weeks old.
On the ground floor you can find the lobby and the restaurant and bar. The bar looks very amazing with all the glass and when you look at the roof you can see that the upper levels are partly made out of glass. This makes a very good impression. We received a welcome drink when we checked in.
The elevator was still the old one but this was not a big deal because they just opened. The rooms are all on the second and third floor. We slept on the third floor in a normal room. This because the wedding room was not ready yet. When you walk on the first floor you see all the rooms which are all made from glass. You need to close the curtains otherwise the other guests can see into you room. The rooms look very amazing. They are modern furnished with a good feeling of style.
We paid double by a mistake of our own. The staff did handle this issue very correctly and paid the extra amount back. The hotel also had a present for our honeymoon. They gave us a bottle of champagne and homemade cake. Thank you staff for this very kind present.
The restaurant did look very good. We did not eat there. We had ordered breakfast after our night. The breakfast was a bit limited. The coffee was good only you did not have many types of bread to choose from and you could not order fried eggs.
You can park your car next to the hotel in a garage. The cost for this is for each day less than 10 euros. Then you need to walk 3 minutes...
Read moreConverting a 150 year old church in the middle of a thriving city into a modern hotel must have been a great project. On the whole a great success, though some lack of professional attention to detail at the design stage can't now easily be corrected. For example: Lovely wide corridors but barely space for your knees in the WCs. Only one towel hook in the bathroom for a double room (that can easily be corrected, of course). Transparent glass everywhere e.g. see photo (rather than matt to waist level, say) so even the Dutch will draw their curtains at all times when in their rooms .... and the traditional hoteliers' problem of installing a beautifully effective airconditioning / heating system that few guests staying for less than a week are going to be able (to be bothered) to work out how to use. Wifi OK; breakfast lighting far too atmospheric (you don't want romantic effects at 8 am, you want to see what you are eating). ||So I started with the negatives for a change ... but the beds are great, showers excellent, the buffet breakfast superb (lovely crispy bacon - quite rare in the NL - great orange juice and a good range of coffee varieties on top of the eggy / yogurty / bready / cheesy etc. things you expect everywhere. Really excellent fresh fruit salad. Good late night bar service. We didn't try supper as there was lots of competition outside (but the menu looked god) ....||Car access has recently been made more difficult by the increased pedestrianisation of parts of Hoorn city centre that hadn't made its way into any SatNav system. With any luck by the time you arrive the hotel will have worked out how to inform guests what to do. (Most of our group had fun driving in circles and getting lost). ||To be recommended for a...
