Terrible place, even worse service. The owner is arrogant, parties all night in the front shed where the pool table is for him and family use only. The pool is a nightmare, nasty green and full of debris. The rooms are very dated and barely minimal set up. The beds are not worth sleeping on, looks and feels like they got dragged out of the 50's. The camp kitchen is very basic but I guess functional at best. The laundry is overdue for a makeover, the $3 washer barely washes and the dryer, we'll, save you coins for the laundromat in town as it doesn't work. I peeked into the camp bathrooms in hopes to see improvements, but, I was not let down. The men's toilet was running all over the floor, the shower head looked good but sadly mistaken there also. All in all, this place is close to being needing to be condemned. It's small, untidy, extremely outdated, and arrogant. The guy in the small bus smoking too much Marijuana, the smell fills the campsite, trash out on the grass beside the bus, loud music, just a shambles. Was booked in for 2 nights....opted to pack up and find somewhere a little better. Would NOT recommend this place as a dog shelter let alone a motel. Went stayed across the road...so much nicer, just an...
Read moreThis is an older motel/holiday park and the rooms are basic but clean and tidy. They smell clean and no mould or damp etc which was great.||The beds were comfortable and the kitchen - even though it’s tiny - had a full oven, microwave and the standard little fridge. The bathroom is also little but that’s ok. Shower with metal bottom and shower curtain but good water pressure and I think they must be on gas hot water, as we didn’t run out. ||The only thing I’d take with me next time is my own sharp knife (they had one I could make-do with though), a vegetable peeler and a chopping board but really you can get by with the utensils.||The biggest bonus - it was fairly quiet. Unlike other places I’ve heard about on that main stretch which as very noisy or close to train line - these units are back off the main road. So you could hear slight truck noise sometimes - it was minimal though and didn’t affect us at all. ||We would stay here again. Just remember it’s basic and built a while ago.||Also Countdown is right across the road -...
Read morePutaruru is a handy stopover for travel between Auckland and Wellington or Hawkes Bay, and although this is an old motel, it is well located for being far enough back from the main highway that the trucks thundering by aren't too disturbing, and it's great that the Countdown supermarket is just up the opposite side of the road. We are always looking for a separate bedroom, which is becoming expensive, and this motel is an old but affordable option. We had unit 3, and found it OK, a bit of wall damage in the bathroom and shower unit, paintwork a bit worn in places, but overall the unit looks as if it has been recently re-painted, and was well aired. The rear windows were fully open when we arrived. The unusually small kitchen has a full stove, which is becoming rare these days. The bathroom area is also a bit cramped, but overall, the unit is not gloomy or pokey, as it has lots of windows. Most importantly, the...
