Late Friday afternoon 10/7/20 my husband checked into Magnolia after managing his vehicle breakdown closeby. Next day 8.30amish i arrived to pick him up and continue our journey. I entered Room 1 with some spare clothes options for him, then we quickly cleared the room of some handtools and personal belongings. I thought the room looked pretty dated for $130, so i took some pics in bathroom, lounge, kitchen.. Just after 9am a blonde pakeha woman who didnt identify herself appeared at our door and said are the keys in there? I said yes.. (We hadnt checked out because my husband was working on our trailer.. the clock had not struck 10.. so we still hadnt checked out. She entered the room and started nosying as if she was in search of something.. then she entered the bathroom and asked "Wheres the other facecloth?" My husband came in to wash his hands.. still before 10am.. and responds "I dont know.. thats all that was there when i came in. She said "We always put 2 in all rooms, one on either side of the taps." My husband said.. "Well Idont know where it is because thats all that was there when i arrived." By now her tone started to suggest that her story of 2 left in the room was correct and my husband was lying and had stolen it. OMG!! We left a minute before shocked at what had just happened and vowing never to return. But wait!! Theres more!! An hour later, a lady rings my husband to tell him the Room 1 back sliding door latch was broken and that she was going to use his credit card to repair it. He replied. "I dont know what youre talking about because I didnt touch that door." I only used the front door." Like the other lady (or maybe she was the same lady) She too with an intimidating tone held fast to her story that each room is cleaned/checked after ever customer and the last user hadnt reported damage. Meaning.. my husband was lying AGAIN!! My husband said "You have already shown inconsistency in your procedures. 1. Accusing me of stealing a facecloth that clearly wasn't there and now damage to a door that i didnt touch. My husband told her. "No you wont be taking money from my credit card because i paid you with my Debit card!" Annoyed with the bullying language she was applying i took the phone and gave her some of her own medicine back informing her that my husband was a Principal of a school and would not steal your facecloth and lie about damaging your door.. Suddenly, her angle started to change by trying to convince me that she had to undertake enquiry to establish where her issue originated.. "Now i have to go backwards and check the last user." I hung up on her after advising her to do herself a favour and learn some better communication skills so innocent customers dont end up feeling like theyve been treated like liars and thieves. BTW Everyone.. about 200m on the opposite side of the road is a lovely alternative called The Ranui Motel.. Hosts are Respectful, Courteous and Caring, very nice room and much cheaper. As for Magnolia..You decide! And final word.. But wait!! There'll be more. The lady is about to come back with the reply of doom.....
Read moreWhat an experience, will not recommend this Motel to anyone the owner asked me for my credit card details I replied I was paying cash and had made it quite clear when I first made my reservation that this was how I was going to pay, her response was every Motel asks for a credit card ( I'm not sure about this) however in the past I haven't had problems paying cash up front. I was then told to ask my passengers if they had a credit card when I refused she said she would go and ask them. My passengers happened to be my elderly parents whom didn't have a card. She finally asked me if I had any card a debit card anything that she could use. I found it very expensive and like other reviewers the room was very outdated the sheets were old. All in all the owner was not welcoming at all we were only allowed to go to or ring reception between 8am and 8pm after these hours don't bother unless it's an emergency lol, you had to ring the bell to enter the...
Read moreWe absolutely loved our 3-night stay at the Magnolia Court Motel in Ōpōtiki. Kourtney was a fantastic host—warm, accommodating, and so helpful when we needed to make last-minute changes to our booking. It’s clear she takes great pride in managing the motel.
Our unit was spacious, well-equipped, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The daily housekeeping was a lovely touch and kept the room feeling fresh. We also really appreciated the high-quality linen, crockery and all of the consumables.
The room we stayed in was newly renovated, and it's clear the managers are thoughtfully modernising the motel unit by unit. Compared to another motel we stayed at in town the previous weekend, Magnolia Court had noticeably quieter road noise. The beds were so much more comfortable too, which made for a more restful stay.
Highly recommend these guys! We will definitely be booking here again next time...
