The mussel fritter was the real deal. I want to drive back from Auckland for the sole purpose of consuming these day to day, meal to meal, my gosh, up to the day of trying the mussel fritter I did not believe in anything sacred or profound, now I have truly found god, no mere mortal could have done such things to my palate, such freshness, such depth and complexity of flavour. I sit here at my desk trying to focus on work and study yet can not get the memory out of my mind, I have become consumed, the consumed has become the consumer. The senses and emotional values I experience can not be justly translated into text. In 1790 Immanuel Kant Kant claims, "We call that sublime which is absolutely great". He distinguishes between the Beautiful and the Sublime, noting that beauty "is connected with the form of the object", having "boundaries", while the sublime "is to be found in a formless object", represented by a "boundlessness". Though through approaching the fritter on a purely objective or physical state this would place it within the realm of beauty, possessing the form of a 'fritter'. Yet the fritter can hardly be seen to take on it's purely physical form, the idea is essential here, the idea of the fritter lives on in my mind paradoxically to it's matter, long since processed through my digestive tract. How can I reconcile this, is one to go mad with the ongoing presence of the idea of the fritter, without it's physical presence. Perhaps here, we can take on Lacan's term of the 'object petit a' the object cause of desire. Here with the fritter we can really see how the object petit a is a purely unobtainable object cause of desire, me being in Auckland, the fritters existing only in Opotiki, as a yet to be constructed masterpiece, the surplus of jouissance. So can we see it as anything but the lack, the remainder of the Real that sets in motion the symbolic movement of interpretation, a hole at the center of the symbolic order, the mere appearance of some secret to be explained, interpreted. What is to be this secret, what mysteries can the fritter explain, or more that it is the mystery itself that I shall have to come to love, to enjoy and savour. Love thy symptom as thyself, God bless, Aroha nui,...
Read moreAfter placing a large order of food, was disappointed to find out that some large items were not included, to top this off the staff who took my order lied to the person who collected the order as to why the items where missing (who would change their mind and ask for chicken nuggets instead of x2 main burgers?) not me and I was sitting around a few people who heard me state I would take two burgers. Was told would have to wait 30mins for them to make the two burgers because they were busy, which i understand but don’t lie and fix your mistake before starting the next order. To top it off, out of the 3 fish we ordered only one was bigger than my hand. Would have walked out without the food or even waited if we didn’t have a handful of kiddies waiting for dinner. More so disappointed that instead of owning up to the mistake or clarifying a large order (which I’ll also make sure to do next time) that we were lied to and no remorse or rectification was given for...
Read moreCame in during a busy period. My God did it get busy. Waited about 45 minutes for the order, and everything was put together looking like a sloppy mess when we got it. They don't do crumbed fish, and the pineapple fritter bag looked like there bottom of a chippy packet. We paid $90 for a very mediocre fish and chip night for 8 people. Service was pretty slack too. Main woman had a bit of an attitude, some sort of smile could've made some sort of difference. She really looked like she didn't want to be there. They also had family I'm guessing helping out in the kitchen, and little kids were going in and out of the food areas without any sort of control. The girl who took my order forgot to give me a number and so when the order was ready they had to try and find me by reading out what I had ordered, but everyone else had numbers. The other places down there road we've tried tend to be...
