The dump station down the road at the petrol station is a mongrel, though, because you are competing with motorists who want to get to the bowser. A gravel pit, a picnic table, a few books to exchange. It's handy, but no frills. There are some weird signs warning campers from climbing the fence into wahi tapu Māori land, so they must have had trouble in the past. It's a weed infested nightmare over the fence, so who knows why you'd want to go there, but the signs are generously sprinkled about, so I guess human nature got the better of campers who don't like fences.
