My family and I travelled to Taupo for a couple days from Auckland and we visited the restaurant on Tuesday 28th December. We discovered your restaurant online and based on the reviews, we assumed the food would be spectacular. However, my cousin ordered a medium rare steak but it was cooked well done. But my father's medium rare steak was fine, demonstrating inconsistency. My mother and I ordered the pork chop which was indeed very dry, as if it was frozen. We also found a fish scale on one of our pork chops which was concerning. The mash potatoes that came along with it had a very strange texture. Really disappointing experience after good reviews and a recommendation. We ordered entrees and mains and they were all poor. My medium steak arrived blue and after recooking was rare at one end and well done at the other, with juices running on the plate from a lack of resting time. Vegetables were not fresh (I'm guessing a frozen mix), fried were soggy and my husband's camembert entree was undercooked. Staff were friendly and I understand that the usual chef wasn't available, but we could have had an amazing meal at the Turangi Lodge for the same price, or chosen somewhere much cheaper where we would have expected this...

Expectations: Relatively high price and limited menu thus expecting high quality food. Expectations not realised.

1 hour wait for meal to arrive...so really hungry by the time food arrived. Steak raw and not in a good way; had to return. Second steak was much better however, ordered mushroom sauce on the side...it was slathered all over the steak. Other meal...Fish was thin and small in portion, chips not cooked properly.
