Travelling around Southland we initially planned to stay in Invercargill but couldn’t fine accommodation so decided to stay in Riverton. Appearances can be deceptive, La Riviera is located on the Main Street but don’t be put off by the rather basic shops and facilities nearby. The hardware store is amazing. However back to La Riviera. Car park to the rear, enter through the small but pleasant garden. A warm welcome awaits! The hotel prides itself on its individual decor and art. It doesn’t disappoint. It’s are presented with good taste and really you just keep finding little touches that make you smile. It’s not over done too. |Our room had a very comfortable bed with good quality bedding. Our window looked out over the road but it want noisy.|A highlight was the breakfast including fresh eggs fro the resided chickens - I should have remembered their names. Great views from the kitchen and lounge on the 1st floor.|Rose looked after us and is a font of local knowledge. She with her partner have work hard to make the place interesting and comfortable. I think they have done a good job. The longer you stay the more relaxed you get and appreciate the wonderful feeling of being far South and remote. The area has a lot to offer but you need to seek it out or talk to Rose. One recommendation - book the local restaurants to ensure you...

Home grown eggs, home stewed fruit etc for breakfast all to be enjoyed while enjoying the beautiful view of the Riverton estuary. Two nights here was fantastic....
