It was a pleasant stay at Global Village Accommodation until the manager opened our room door in the morning and just scolded us without asking or listening to our explanation. The night before we checked out, we called the manager to open the laundry door bcs we left something inside, and initially we were going to check out at 7am the next day, and we need to pack our things at night. However, after getting back our thing, we received email from the ferry company saying our ferry has been cancelled, so we decided NOT to check out at 7am in the next morning, we’ll stick to the original check out time which is 10am. The next day, the manager just opened our room door without knocking or asking, and just scolded us saying we’re rude in manner bcs we rang him in the night, yet he didn’t want to listen to our explanation at all. I once again explained to him our ferry was cancelled when I returned the room key, and he didn’t want to listen to me. Besides than that, everything in the accommodation is good, clean and people there are friendly. I’m so regret that I left a bad memory there due to the misunderstanding and ignorance of communication.

Nice hostel a bit away from the centre, but the owner offered to pick us up at the main station. We weren't exactly were he expected us to be and left with other client in the span of one minute (faster than the time for us to spot him, take our backpacks and move the 15 metres from our waiting location). He came back about 10 minutes later and was a bit grumpy that we weren't there the first time. But then he was quite friendly for the 2 days we stayed there. Free kayaks are provided. The wifi was quite unstable. There were only 2 showers open for the men and, for a day, only one for the women. On the second night, we were playing a card game in the kitchen at 9:30 pm with others guests and the owner asked us to go somewhere else as we would disturb sleeping peoples. It wasn't very problematic, but we all had a bad feel about how it was asked.

Your Global Village hosts Russel and Yuri run a fantastic backpackers in Greymouth, they keep it tidy, clean and are genuinely nice people who care about your comfort. The space itself is quirky, as the name suggests it has a definite global feel, decorated with items from around the globe. The kitchen is large and well appointed, the bathrooms clean and showers have great water pressure. The rooms offer varying configurations of single and double beds and bunks (I couldn't get access to many rooms to take photos). There are bikes and kayaks to use, there's a small 'gym', a sauna and hot tub which wasn't operational while we were there. Global Village really is a great place to stay in Greymouth if you're passing through, and the surrounding area is stunning - so many walks and places of interest to check out.

I am getting ready to leave this wonderful place feeling rested and renewed. I came here not as a backpacker but to find a place of refuge after relocating to Greymouth and giving up my stable job elsewhere with a new partner...A leap of faith. However a month in the mask fell off this person and I was in a position where I had to pack up & start all over again ...at 50😩. I initially wanted somewhere I could have my own personal space to think, so a hostel was the absolute last place I wanted to go, there however was nothing available anywhere else available in town, typical for this time of year. I ended up in a six bed dorm with at least four other women on any given night. What was ment to be three nights turned into six, I didn't want to leave. Honestly. This place has been a experience that I would never want to change. Distpite all the people and comings and goings that I would normally find disturbing, was nothing like that. I met some lovely people, learnt alot about a day in the life of a backpacker...very tempting lol. Even with lots of people around there is still a quiet tranquil place to be found inside and out. There is a theme in every area and a restful peaceful vibe surrounding this very special place. You can choose to be sociable or just go about your own thing. Everyday is like a fresh canvas waiting for you to put your mark on it. Also I'm blown away at how clean it is and they have absolutely everything u could possibly need, if you can't find it/ don't see it they will be happy to provide it. Lovely management and staff. As long as u are courteous of others and do your bit to clean up after yourself...as it should be...then u will find it easy to go about what you need to do. It seemed very honest everybody knows there own stuff and I didn't incounter any theft. What's yours is your and others know that and I observed that it was respected. Gosh I can't say enough great things about it except...I wanna live here!! 😊. I will definitely come back 💯 next time under better...

I was just passing through Greymouth for a quick night, but Global Village Backpackers left one of the most memorable and best impressions on me!

And this was in my experience of visiting A LOT of hostels traveling through Australia and New Zealand on a recent trip of mine.

The location is pretty centrally located in town, located nestled against a little hill and forest area in a quiet neighborhood.

The family that runs the hostel is incredibly hosiptiable and caring. The environment they have created is welcoming and relaxing, with thoughtful touches throughout that make you realize they have really considered how to make the hostel experience an enjoyable one.

Little things like an elevated wood platform to step off onto in the showers as you dry off, personal shelves in the bed areas, and different rooms to hang out in, these thoughful touches really make a difference. Everything is very clean and well maintained, as well.

And I want to reiterate the the care and effort the family puts in for their guests, something super apparent to me in my short time staying there.

Not only was Jacinda super friendly and welcoming, I realized later that I had left one of my favorite sweatshirts behind. She went above and beyond and mailed it to Auckland so I could pick it up before catching my flight out of NZ. It arrived just in time!

I don't write too many reviews, but felt the need to share what a great experience I had with Global Village Backpackers. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. Thanks again to the whole family that made this one of my favorite stops...
