Columbus Coffee — Restaurant in West Coast

Came here for breakfast for two of us, plus scone snd fluffys for the kids. I ordered the eggs Benedict, the hollandaise was terrible, hadn't reduced the vinegar properly didn't complain about that however the eggs were rock solid.

The server came and took them back and returned with another meal which was cold, the eggs again were overdone and missing the roasty which is half the meal.

I waited close to ten minutes for the roasty which never came and my partner got up and said it wasn't good, they just gave us a refund for the roasty alone not the entire meal that was ruined twice.

Eggs in an eggs Benedict is rather important also the food being hot and edible and actually providing the entire meal.

Unfortunately the coffees long black and latte were both over extracted very unpleasant. The young woman who served the coffees however was lovely, the meal server was OK.

No sorry, no nothing as a fellow café owner/operator that's a really bad first impression.

We won't be back. $75 for a unplesant experience wouldn't recommend this place to...

It's quite odd that such a lovely cafe, with a nice environment, great food, friendly staff can be found in a small west coast town, tucked away in a Mitre 10 Mega department store. My partner and I got Eggs Benedict, Belgian Waffles and two frappes, and it's easy to say we were in love (with the food). Some of the best hollandaise I've had, and just look at that presentation. My only disappointment was that my yolks weren't runny, but that's a personal preference. Though we were intrigued by the coffee, the fruit (Mango, and Apple & Feijoa) left us feeling fresh and ready for our long day of walking and travel. What a great experience at Columbus Cafe Greymouth. After 4 hrs driving and already being rudely turned away by a cafe who'd run out of food. Columbus also affected by the busy holiday time and the NZ shortage of ingredients e.g. eggs (so had limited menu items). What a different positive 'can do' attitude - staff were so creative offering other food alternatives. Even creating a new menu item Caesar Brioche chicken Burger 🍔 with polenta fries.
