“Your key’s in the room, the heat pump’s on, and there’s a bottle of milk for tea or coffee in the fridge.”
This, my friends, is what you call a warm reception.
And yet the grand first impression had only just begun. The room – and this goes for all rooms – boasted a wide, floor to ceiling window drenching the room in natural light; and the kitchen sported not merely instant coffee, but a Nespresso, with capsules, and instructions for first-time users. (And for the non-coffee drinkers – yes, I see you there, both of you – fear not; the instant drinks tray glimmers green with milo sachets and, tucked behind them, a small pack of ginger nut biscuits says hello.)
The real test, of course, is the bed, of which my tender-for-its-age back is a cruel judge. At the time it was still recovering from the previous day’s mattress, which, alas, had not lived up to expectations. Well perhaps Middle Park had heard its decree, for the queen mattress herein received my tender spine like a world-class masseur, with the single problem of causing me to sleep in, ignore my alarm, sleep more, and end up late to my morning appointment. Drat. Well, I suppose you get what you wish for.
Middle Park’s name doesn’t do the place justice. It’s middling in price, yes, but the attention to care and comfort hints of places higher up. Give their bed a go the next time you’re...
Read moreA Colleague and I shared a two bedroom unit for a 10 day stay while attending the Grey Power Annual General Meeting being hosted by the Marlborough Grey Power Association. Our first impression of the Unit was it's size, master bed-room ok, 2nd bedroom really BIG with 3 single beds and plenty of walk room shower room large with all mod cons. 2nd impression was the cleanliness. The whole place was spotless and the unit was serviced each day while we were out so we were not inconvenienced at all. The shower was a bit low pressure, but when mentioned to the managers it was recitified the very same afternoon and new fittings fitted. Nothing requested was too much trouble. Nice private courtyard at rear of unit with grapes to pick and a pleasant walk around the grounds and beside the stream. We would both recommend Middle Park Motel and it's hosts Aaron and Mandy without hesitation.

Read moreWe might have had the best room in the motel. so spacious and well decorated with my favorite red in the comfortable furnishings and situated right next to a beautiful, burbling brook looking like a mini botanical garden. The pool, tucked among shady trees and masses of colorful flowering shrubs was wonderfully refreshing for daily laps. The bed was excellent with just the right comforter, and the fridge was the best I've found in a motel along with an easy to work microwave. The kitchen was perfectly equipped and meals were so pleasant on the elegant glass dining table. The huge bathroom was a treat as well with a fine shower and big window. We enjoyed the sunny, breezy private patio too, perfect for quickly drying swimsuits, and washing bits. We couldn't have had...
