This hotel prefers a trendy look over comfort.
At check in I was simply given a room card with not much else said. No explanation of any facilities, breakfast times, food/drink last orders, and no mention of the free welcome drink too. There were two staff and one person in front of me - so no pressure. A very poor initial experience.
Take a walk around this hotel and try to find a comfortable place to sit. There are absolutely none - stools are wooden cafeteria chairs, seats in the restaurant are rock hard and at 90° angles, rooms and bathrooms are extremely small, there is no minibar, tea/coffee facilities , no chair or desk to work (you get a foot stool and a wall shelf instead)! There is a constant cold draught in the room, requiring a t-shirt to be worn whilst sleeping. I'm also pretty sure they have more comfortable beds in prison. The mattress is shockingly hard and is equivalent to sleeping on the carpet floor. The pillows are so huge and firm you're guaranteed to get neck pain. The complete absence of comfort throughout this hotel is truly mindblowing.
After two flights and 8 hours of traveling to get to Tromso and I am really hungry. Whilst this hotel advertises a restaurant the reality is that all they have is a dual convection oven and very limited options. Limited options were: Burger (with potato crisps, not fries!), hot wings, salad, vegan burger all of course at premium NOK prices. So if you don't want to eat a burger or a takeaway carrot cake then you are pretty much out of luck for alternatives. There are not many restaurants nearby in the area, one would assume the hotel would take advantage of this and the wonderful rooftop area which has the potential to be a fantastic skybar/restaurant with panoramic views, but it appears they would rather simply employ 1 person to perform multiple job functions: chef, receptionist, bar tender, waiter. As others have said, service is slow, and there is always a wait, even just for one beer due to this reason.
This hotel clearly thrives on consistent business being close to the airport and whilst the hotel looks great on paper, it really fails to deliver in so many aspects. It is no more functional than a 2 star hotel / backpackers hostel.
I have stayed in Moxy Milan and there is absolutely no comparison to Moxy Tromso. I would not stay here again in Moxy...

3.6/5 ⭐️
✅ Pros: Great location! Close to the airport, right beside a large grocery store (with a good selection of pre-made sandwiches for breakfasts and/or lunches) and there’s a bus stop across the street that takes you to downtown in a few minutes. Room was comfortable. It’s a Moxy, so the room doesn’t have many amenities (like a safe, fridge, kettle etc.). It’s on the smaller side but you can make it work! Bed was comfortable too. The lounge on the top floor is gorgeous. I didn’t spend much time up there but the view is amazing and it has been thoughtfully designed to include lots of seating space and activities for people.
❎ Cons: The staff were not very friendly or knowledgeable. When I arrived at the hotel, I went to reception and said that I’m early but supposed to be checking in today. The guy working didn’t even say hello or pull up my reservation, just immediately said “Early check in will be 300nok”. Didn’t tell me about the ability to leave my luggage in a locker or how to get to the city. No maps. No info. Upon checking in later, I had to wait a while as the woman was talking to a coworker at the bar. She was a bit friendlier but no mention of Marriott status, and no info on the stay or city. Any staff member I saw or spoke to throughout the 5 days seemed disinterested. It was unusual and kind of put a bad taste in my mouth, especially for a Moxy! The “connect your device” option on the tv in the room doesn’t work. Only a minor inconvenience! Booked with points (where you don’t have the option of choosing a room category) and received a room facing the back parking lot instead...
Read moreThe Roof-top bar area was gorgeous. Very well decorated and the pool + baby football table was a fun addition that we made good use of. ||The room was pretty standard, but it met our needs well and we had no serious complaints other than that there were no available radiator or heating units to dry clothes on. Something we found ourselves needing a fair bit. ||The staff were all friendly and international with seemingly lots of language coverage between them. ||It's biggest problem was the distance from town which is a 15 minute drive/1 hour walk (we didn't try) or else a regular bus ride i guess half an hour. Apparently this will get worse when the tunnel shuts at the end of the year so keep in mind. ||As we opted for the convenience of the taxi this added up price-wise in a way we hadn't anticipated, but maybe we could have taken the bus and saved some money so I guess that's on us. ||The breakfast was also quite disappointing both in terms of content and organisation. Guests are funnelled in a very narrow space and forced to wait a long time in a line during peak moments. Easy fix would be to move the breakfast to one of the side areas.||Also at one point there was a gang of local kids hanging out in the (shared) 11th floor bathrooms harassing guests including my girlfriend and I. This wasn't a nice experience but apparently it's something the staff...
