Lula's B&B was awesome! I spent about a week hear in early January, 2025, checking out Bocas & Panama, and Lula's was exactly what I was looking for.
The rooms: Clean and comfortable (with air conditioning - which isn't found everywhere in Panama!), comfortable bed, plenty of pillows, etc., ceiling fan, and an armoire with a few shelves, and a safe for valuables. Clean but smallish bathroom.
The shared spaces: Upstairs there's an outdoor patio area with hammocks, sitting areas, and honor bar. During my stay, I saw lots of people using this space to read, relax, and have a drink or two. There's WiFi access througout, and I was able to get some work done here as well. Downstairs, there's a bit more space to sit, and some shared amentites, like snorkel gear, beach towels, etc. Downstairs has an inside where the breakfast is served daily, and there's quite a decent sized sharing library with hundreds of books.
Breakfast: Served daily from 8-10am. Juice, coffee, fresh fruit, and then you can choose from eggs (w toast or pancakes), pancake breakfast, or yogurt. The breakfast doesn't change, so if you're here for an extended stay, you might want to try some brunch spots eventually, but I really liked the breakfast so I ate here almost every day.
The Staff: As with most B&B's the staff and the owner really can make or break your experience. Tammy, the host, is friendly, helpful, and knowledable about the area, and consistently did the 'little things' to make my stay that much more enjoyable. For example, when I booked an early tour that left before breakfast 'officially started', she make sure to let me know that I could come in early and eat before my long day. I didn't expect that and yet it was really nice of her - we didn't eat on the tour for several long hours.
The Location: Nearly perfect in my mind, away from the "busy" town but not too far away, I could walk anywhere I needed to in 5-10 minutes. There's also a great beach bar/restaurant directly across the street, which is nice for a quick bite or drink when you want something super close.
The one caveat which is NOT the fault of Lula's, is that there's a huge sewer improvement project going on all over Bocas town, and at the time of my visit, the heavy equipment was working right outside my window. They work 7 days a week, starting at 7am. So, just word to the wise, bring ear-plugs if you want to sleep in! I had noise cancelling ear-buds that worked great.
All-in-all, a fantastic place, with a fantastic host, and I would highly recommend it to anyone...
Read moreTammy, the owner, has really put a lot of love into this place. She has redone so much and updated the place beautifully keeping the charm of the island town in this cozy home away from home.
I volunteered with a local non profit animal welfare group called Papa Gato and Tammy donated the room for me while I was there helping with a spay and neuter clinic. This says so much about her and what she is trying to do for the community. Providing support for the locals and trying to influence the world around her.
The rooms are clean. The bed is very comfortable and the room has curtains as well as blinds to block the light in morning so you can sleep in. There is a nice private bath with large storage drawer, and rain head shower. Hot water too!
The breakfast is AMAZING. A nicely set table with coffee, juices, and teas. She gives you a paper to fill out for your order specially for you. One morning I had yogurt with fruit and toast and the next a veggie omelet prepared fresh. There is a tray fresh fruit such as papaya, bananas, pineapple, and watermelon. Great conversation with Tammy and the original staff of Lula's Osiris and Sergio.
In addition, the ambiance is quite nice and chill, many hammocks to lay in and even a kitchen for the guests and fridge for you to cook your meals. She also provides beer and wine as honor system and you pay at the end of your stay.
Location was very convenient and just a short walk to the clinic that is near the airport. Everything is pretty close there in Bocas. Waking up to the sounds of the waves hitting the shore was always wonderful to hear.
Thank you for everything Tammy! You truly found...
Read moreWe recently returned from a stay at Lula’s and the experience was exceptional. Tammy and Allen are great hosts and the property is fresh, clean, and comfortable. I slept well every night, the beds are great, the property is quiet, and each room has a private bathroom and AC. The property is very well maintained, several breakfast options are available and all include fresh fruit. So, currently Bocas is undergoing infrastructure improvements and there are varying opinions and comments addressing the conditions. We did not find them to be challenging, and arrived with the expectation we were visiting a Panamanian island and not a resort. Prior to our arrival Tammy confirmed our schedule so she could pick us up at the airport and also dropped us off on the way out; this may be typical, but on the ride, we passed travelers wheeling suitcases on an unpaved road and Tammy commented that she wouldn’t want her guests to leave with that experience. The property includes a communal porch with great views and we met other guests who all shared positive impressions of their stays. We arrived with unscheduled ideas and Tammy and Allen helped with restaurant and activity suggestions, one of which we had not considered, touring the island by E-Bike which was a lot of fun. Lula’s is in a great location in Bocastown and we recommend it as a perfect homebase for exploring and relaxing. We enjoyed meeting you Tammy and Allen and thank you both. ...
