Pangea Bocas — Local services in Bocas del Toro

I will start this review off with something very important. We felt extremely safe the entire trip. From the well trained staff, the to the brand new and well equipped boat to the safety gear that was given to us and the crew was wearing (the boat has a working bathroom)

But let’s get to the fun stuff. This is by far the best boat tour I have ever been on. We took the Veronica out for a half day excursion (3 adults and 2 kids) and did an amazing loop around Isla Colon, with stops at La Piscina, Blue Lagoon, a lap around Bird Island and lunch in Drago. It felt like we were in places that nobody has ever been in before. We rode through some gnarly swells with ease (see awesome boat above) and had a nice cruise on the protected waters on our way home. My girlfriend said on multiple occasions that this was the best day of her life. That’s all I needed to hear.

Harvey and Maykol were an amazing team as they navigated the waters, shared local and historical knowledge and treated us like royalty. They had local fruit and snacks for us, plenty of beverages and huge smiles. They seemed like they were just having a great time seeing us enjoy ourselves. Maykol even became our trip photographer and used my phone to document the entire trip for us. We couldn’t have asked for a better staff.

I am very disappointed with how my experience with Pangea ended. I booked three private tours with them, and while two went smoothly, one tour was canceled due to protests on the mainland. The owner personally assured me that I would receive a refund.

During my time there, I was genuinely impressed with the company. The owner and his staff were extremely friendly, attentive, and accommodating. I had such a good experience that I even invited the owner out to dinner with my family. At that point, I felt confident that I was dealing with an honest, customer-focused business.

Unfortunately, after returning to the U.S. in June 2025, my view changed. I reached out multiple times—both to the company and directly to the owner—regarding the promised refund, but I received no response. It is now the end of September, and I still have not been refunded.

This lack of follow-through is deeply disappointing, especially after such a positive start. While the staff’s hospitality was excellent, the failure to honor a refund commitment leaves me unable to recommend Pangea. Trust and accountability are just as important as a good experience on the water, and in this case, they fell short.

Seriously one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. The folks at Pangea are extremely professional. Our boat captain Harvey was a total ace! We went to some of the most beautiful and secluded places on Isla Colon, and first mate Maykol was knowledgeable and extremely attentive. The boat was brand new, very clean, and had every amenity.
