Samuel and Darlene were very sweet and helped learn so much about the work they do, their life and cacao. The chocolate was so creamy and rich, the best we have tasted actually. We really enjoyed the tour and gained a new perspective on life.
We had to get to the water taxi (next to Restaurant Chitre). Thereafter the water taxi, and a taxi to the farm is covered to there and back. There are two tours - 8.45am and 11.45am. Samuel met us when we got off the water taxi. They showed us the farm and the process of roasting and making the cocoa powder. We then had lunch with them before heading back. We did have to wait for the water taxi for 30-40 mins but we didn’t mind. This is not something Oreba can control and it is remote. Island time means ensure even though the tour is 2.5 hrs, you account for the transportation time. We got back around 2pm from the 8.45 am tour to Bocas center.
Also, 45$/person seems steep but it includes all the transport, their time and is for their...
Read moreI would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bocas!! Oreba was very accommodating to us and took us from the main island to the chocolate farm, which was included in the price. It was a very scenic journey. Once we got there we had lunch which was all made from food locally grown on the farm. The food was delicious. We were then given a tour of the farm and an in detail explanation of the work that goes into the chocolate farm and a history as well. We also saw dart frogs and a Tucán! I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and had a wonderful time from start to...
Read moreSurprised that this doesnt get more reviews on here. They got hundreds of reviews on Trip Advisor though. Anyway, this is an absolute must do if you’re in Bocas. The cacao farms are all indigenous family-run, and all the profit are going back to the community. Samuel and Darlene are very knowledgeable about the history of cacao and you can ask them about the indigenous community as well if you are keen to learn more. We got to taste cacao in all of its different forms. At the end of the tour we were served indigenous food for lunch. Truly one of the highlights of my...
