I arrived in Asunción without having any hotel reservation. However I knew that I would be stay either at Crowne Plaza or Cecilia. Both hotels met my basic requirements- AC, gym, breakfast and in center. From the airport I went to Cecilia to check out the place. The lady who greeted me was very kind and let me see the available rooms and gym etc. I initially booked the room (superior room Blue suite) for 3 nights but ended up staying 7 nights.
As others have stated in past reviews that this is an older building and that is exactly what makes it a charming place. This is a family owned hotel with an interesting story that you can read about in the lobby. The family still runs the hotel, attends the reception and offer a personal touch.
My room was spacious with a king bed, lot of room to spread, good Wi-Fi, hot shower with good water pressure and most importantly, quiet. The AC works great. My room was an interior room with limited inside view but it was a trade off to be in one of the quietest rooms with no street traffic noise. There is a fridge in the room where you can store your own wine and food etc. There is a 24/7 convenience / grocery store Biggie down two blocks from the hotel. Biggie sells everything you may need for an extended stay -wines, beers, snacks, fruits etc.
There is a gym on 5th floor. It’s old equipment with limited free weights but if you know your way around the gym, you can get a good workout. I used the gym daily. The gym has two air conditioners that help as it was consistently between 95-100+F in Asunción during my stay.
The breakfast was included in my booking and I greatly enjoyed it everyday. The fruits are fresh and of good variety along with cereal, eggs and the usual stuff.
The roof top is amazing with pool and plenty of sitting room. I enjoyed a bottle of wine every night in the refreshing evening breeze with view of Asuncion.
The La Preferida restaurant is attached to the hotel and has same owners. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner once at the restaurant and enjoyed it.
I highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again.
Here are some points of improvement.
Requesting the management to put a desk chair in room for computer work. There was a chair in my room but not suited for long hours of working on computer.
It would be nice to have a ‘do not disturb’ sign on the room door.
The gym gets extremely hot - I’d recommend to have the window shades down during day time to help keep the temperature down.
It would be nice to make incremental upgrades to the gym equipment- new bench, barbell and newer treadmill etc.
I am specially grateful to the owners and staff for their truly wonderful personal service and help...
Read moreThe hotel is located in more central Asuncion, I will not say is a better location it all depends on what is the purpose of your visit, it is a not sophisticated area of town, but the hotel is big, the suite I had was very nice and comfortable, the water was hot in the shower, but stains of oxide are visible, maybe the have to use other detergents to erase that, but that maybe the pipes of water...the hotel is furnished in an older style...we cannot expect more...but, the service in the Front Office and in the restaurant is very friendly and proactive....in a nutshell a nice hotel to stay and taxis are always available to take you anywhere....and the price is very convenient.||||The pool and solarium is on the 6th floor and looks very nice I had no time...
Read moreI don’t like posting until I’m certain but I feel comfortable now after my 4th visit. I’ve stayed at a number of hotels in Paraguay but this classic hotel is truly an amazing value with incredible service. I’m currently eating lunch poolside on the top floor. The Caprese chicken dish is possibly the best chicken dish I’ve ever had. Food (and free breakfast) is outstanding especially for the prices! Not sure how they do it. Beds are extremely comfortable for aching bones. Super clean (with a gym), and the sheets are 5star. Staff is the best I’ve experienced in all of Paraguay. The layout/design is quite unique as well. Cant go wrong...
