We thought we had chosen a nice, old hotel in the city center. The room was very small and stuffy, and the lamp above one of the beds almost broke my glasses as it suddenly fell down (apparently it wasn't properly fixed, I guess I was lucky not to get hurt). During the night, a huge group of (obviously drunk) clients kept on ringing the entrance bell and shouting, going out and coming back several times, making a hell of a noise everytime. The hotel staff didn't say anything and we actually felt very unsafe, wondering what could happen next. When we complained to the reception guy the following morning, he didn't say anything, only to blink when we mentioned the fallen lamp, before saying we would have to pay for it! We decided to leave immediately (when we were supposed to stay for 2 other nights). The guy ran after us when he saw us next to the door (didn't even offer to help with the luggage), I guess by that time he had realized, or he had received a call from his boss, because he offered us to come back at half price!! We didn't even think about it. We found another great option a few blocks away. That hotel stay was probably my worst experience in a hotel in Peru: no safety, noise, and irresponsable management. And it's...
Read moreBad service and worse room. I arrived in the night and there was no one at reception. Even after I rang the bell, I had to wait for awhile before a grumpy receptionist came. She told the cleaning lady to bring me to a room and the cleaning lady looked confused. But the grumpy receptionist insisted I was to go in that room. When I entered I knew why the cleaning lady was confused. I'm a solo traveller, and the room had 3 beds. The bad thing is that the middle bed was in a mess with no bed sheets and was unmade. The cleaning lady apologised and tried to clean the middle bed a little but I told her it was fine as it was late and I just wanted to rest. The worse came later. The hot water faucet in the sink was not working, the cistern of the toilet did not reset properly, and I found later, under the middle bed was someone's pants and an empty bag of chips. I believe they did not prepare for my arrival at all thus the room was not cleaned throughly. Stupid of that receptionist to put me in that room then. Stayed 2 nights and was glad to leave. I'm giving a 2 star review as the cleaning staff and the other receptionist the next day were nicer then the first grumpy receptionist. They are the hotels...
Read moreStaid 2 nights in this hotel during a round trip through Northern Peru. Hotel is very well located in the historical city centre, restaurants and pubs nearby. The hotel looks promising in colonial style with a nice patio. Rooms however are dark and quite basic, but okay for a short stay. Wifi not working in all rooms, but available at reception. Real problem is the breakfast service. In all hotels during our trip we could go to the buffet. In this hotel we were told that only American breakfast was included. I do not think that this is the fault of the agency as we had buffet included in all other places. Juice and eggs were good, but rest not to mention: dry bread rolls, very little butter and jam. Big problem was the service: when ordering tea, you got a single tea bag. Plates, knives etc. all had to be asked for and the 2 service staff was overwhelmed with 8 people to attend. With a little bit of training and service orientation a lot improvement could...
