We stayed here two nights. We received some exceptional service, but there were downsides too.||||Though I had asked for a quiet room they put us in one that received a lot of street noise and I didn't get much sleep.||||The next morning I brought this up and, after first showing me another room that would have also gotten street noise (what were they thinking?), they gave us an entire suite in the interior.||||We left our luggage at the hotel for our tour to Colca Canyon. Upon return in late afternoon, we had a late flight to Lima that night but needed to change our 7am Cruz del Sur bus reservation for the following morning. The manager drove over with us in a taxi to do the exchange at a mall! Though I'm sure I would have managed it on my own--I have enough Spanish--it certainly made it a lot easier.||||The wireless worked well.||||There were a couple of other minor downsides: the included breakfast is skimpy. There's no buffet. Rather, there's a waitress and you get a juice, either eggs or a fruit bowl, a roll or two, and coffee or tea. That's it. Anything else is additional. (Actually, this was good for me because I overeat at the buffets.)||||Also, we printed out our boarding passes and bus tickets and were then told there was a charge of a sol per page. Obviously a nominal expense, but unworthy of hotel of this supposed class.||||Note: the hotel is owned by the order of nuns of the Santa Catalina Monastery!||||We would stay there again, though I would look at other choices too. We both liked it a lot more than La Casa de mi Abuela where we stayed our...
Read moreHotel is in a decent location at the Av. Cayma. Arequipa is a crazy city with a horrible traffic and total lack of planning to build the houses and streets so staying outside of downtown is a good idea. Service is good, friendly staff but the problem is with the building itself. First of all, I love dogs but no matter what side of the building you are staying you will hear dogs barking all night. I just don't understand how the owners of the dogs allow this to happen and maybe the hotel staff are used to this noise. To add more to the problem the windows are are joke. You feel the same noise with the windows close or open. Home made windows, very thin and not sealing noises at all.||||No air A/C only portable heaters so keep this in mind if you are staying in Summer. I stayed late Nov and some days were hot enough to enjoy A/C.||||Free Breakfast was good.||||The other problem I had is that I am not religious at all and you will feel that you are staying in a church with virgins and all the decorations based on catholic religion and I mean BIG religious decorations all over! One staff told me that the hotel is related or owned with the nuns in Arequipa. Guys, we are evolving to a more agnostic world where people from all religions (or none) should feel comfortable wherever they stay and this is a hotel most likely for international travelers coming from different religions (or none like me). I didn't know in advance that I was going to stay inside of a church-like hotel, otherwise this will definitely change...
Read moreMy stay was ruined because when I was going to check out the male receptionist on 17th of August that does the night shift didn't want to honour the price I got at Booking.com, he wanted me to pay more at all cost and I came with all sorts of excuses for that , from the bad exchange rate from Dollars to Peruvian Soles the hotel offers to wanting me to pay the tariff as a Peruvian citizen , I registered with my British passport and entered the country with my British passport , I felt the receptionist wanted to take advantage of me because I'm a female solo traveler , I was checking out at 5.30 am and nobody else was around to witness what he was trying to do and he took advantage of that , he went as far as telling me that I had a fake British passport with the intention of avoiding Peruvian taxes in his hotel , I told him to call Migraciones Peru ( migration number )and he didn't want to do it , luckily a female receptionist just started her shift and told him to honor the Booking tariff, also my room was noisy as they were doing building work but I was moved to another room . When I went through passport control leaving Peru I asked the lady of the desk and she told me that definitely I appear as entering the country with my British Passport, the receptionist said that apparently he couldn't see it in his system , I don't know if this was a one off or the hotel has a dishonest and very rude employee, I said I was going to complain to Booking and he said go and complain to whoever you want and...
