I was scammed at this Hotel. I stayed in the room for less than 15 minutes. I pushed everyone piece of furniture up against the door. I didn’t feel safe. It smelled like cigarettes and there is no air conditioning . The oscillating fan was as loud as an airplane engine. It was noisy. They tried to charge me double for the room after telling me it was 100 sol they tried to get 200. I was surrounded by the hotel manager, the taxi driver and two solicitors that jumped into the taxi with me. The taxi was inflated price also. When paying all four would stare at my hands as I reached into my pockets. I didn’t know if I would make it out without being robbed. I made a decision to leave. I couldn’t wait to be safe at the airport. They refused to give me my money back. I didn’t argue because I didn’t feel safe. The taxi driver on the way back tried to triple charge me also. It was a very stressful situation. The solicitors, taxi and the hotel manager were all in collaboration. Pay the extra money for the hotel at the airport. Costa De Sol by Wyndham. $170 dollars a night with a free buffet breakfast. Clean and safe with a lot of security walking the floors. Secure elevator...
Read moreYes, this hotel is vastly over priced, but Callao is a dangerous and nasty neighborhood of Lima. Unless you want to pay for the Holiday Inn or Wyndham, then this isn't a bad choice at all simply because it is safe, close to the airport, and somewhat comfortable. That being said, do not take the private taxis from the airport. Walk a little further and ask a normal taxi to take you there. Also, buy food from anywhere but there. They charged me 50 (~ $15) soles for measly chicken and french fries. :| That is utterly despicable in Lima! I lived in Miraflores & even there I could find a menu of soup, ceviche, entree, and juice for 10 soles ($3). They are truly trying to steal from you at the restaurant. Also, do not use their taxis or any taxi from in front of the hotel. Walk left one block (during the day) to the main street and take a taxi, call, or use Uber. If you do those two things then you will have a safe and much more affordable stay very near to...
Read moreThis is a place that comes recommended from airport taxi drivers - I have a feeling they get kickbacks for doing so. I was concerned about my overnight layover since the airport isn't in a very safe area. The taxi driver for some reason brought a friend along for the ride here and "helped" me book the room, which felt super weird as a single woman traveling. For a moment I thought they were going to follow me up to the room but thankfully only followed me to the elevator. I apparently got the "best room they have", which wasn't that impressive for the price. Also for an apparently "safe" hotel, there was a lot of sketchy looking folks wandering the halls. It was also incredibly noisy.
The only plus is that is close to the airport. However the taxi drives have fixed their pricing at ridiculous rates for the 5min drive, over triple what you'd pay elsewhere in Lima. And it's not a walk you want to...
