Pretty House Hostel — Hotel in Lima Metropolitan Area

We went to Peru to help someone move out of an apartment in the Pueblo Libre section of Lima. Others had stayed there and said it was fine. It is clear but austere. This visit being our first time to Lima, we were please with the service provide in arranging a taxi to pick us up at the airport and take us the hotel. It turned out the driver was the proprietor's son whose driving was fast and English very limited. ||||We stayed five nights and did some touring of parts of Lima. The hotel is not in the tourist part of time, but it is a four or five dollar cab ride to the center of the city and not much more to the tourist places in Miraflores by the ocean. ||||The room was clean but dark even with all the energy efficient lights on. Energy is expensive in Peru. The sitting room on the first floor was as well dark having only a light up in the 12 foot ceiling and frosted windows. ||||The owners and family was very friendly and helpful even with very limited English. There is a continental type breakfast of juice (freshly blended either pineapple, papaya or orange), coffee or tea and a roll with cheese... The person preparing and helping in the dining area again was very courteous and helpful but did not speak English. ||||The other lodgers were all locals as there are few foreigners that aim for this locale. ||||We were well treated and made to...

This hostel, is in a fairly busy residential neighbourhood. The street out front will be noisy until about 11pm. The rooms are very plain and you must be clear as to what you want. We booked on line. The description said a room, with balcony, supplies and coffee making fax. The first room we were shown, was little more than a closet. The second had a window opening onto a small dark airshaft. The very pleasant and helpful lady on the front desk, finally got us a room with a balcony. 1 person only can stand on this balcony. ||The room is cleaned and towels replaced daily. Its a long hike to oldtown, if you want to walk, 60 minutes or so. Cab fare is about 20 soles. Bus is cheaper, if you can figure out which one to take.||Included breakfast is small and lacking. I stayed at Pretty House Hostel for almost three weeks. The owner, Mar y Sol, and her children are incredibly warm and accommodating. Mar y Sol's son picked me up from the Lima airport, which I was admittedly nervous about, but he was very professional and I am thankful, looking back, that I didn't have to take a cab, as my plane got in very late. Their family made me feel like family, and even invited myself and the other guests to joint hem for a birthday celebration in downtown Lima. They really contributed to my stay in Lima.||||The accommodations are nice--private bedrooms with private bathrooms. The water is consistently hot, and the entire place consistently clean. Beds are made and rooms are cleaned each day. Breakfast is simple, but good, and the shared kitchen is well-equipped. ||||The streets nearby can be a little noisy, but that's Lima!...
